Muskegon County has been nationally recognized as a top contender in the " Strong Towns Contest." The premise of this competition is to feature communities who are financially strong and resilient through the work of local citizens or “people who care." Five aspects were highlighted as contributing factors that establish Muskegon as a strong town: the farmers market, the city center, complete streets, lakeshore living and attracting cruise ships.
