The Sage Colleges - Student Life Newsletter

www.sage.edu/studentlife SEPTEMBER 2012
Hello, From Student Life!

Welcome to the first issue of the Student Life Shout Outs e-newsletter! Our goal is to inform the Sage Community about who we are and what we do by highlighting students, programs and new initiatives.

To submit your Student Life news, accomplishments & involvements, e-mail detailed information to: bastia@sage.edu with "Student Life News" in the subject line.

In Student Life we believe that: learning happens everywhere; students are at the center of the institution; students are responsible for their own learning; and collaboration leads to more effective service.

These goals are implemented through purposeful programs in the following functional areas: athletics and recreation, student life, student leadership, spiritual development, cultural enrichment and diversity, residence life, public safety, health and counseling services, career education, and community standards.

HIGHLIGHTS

Ebony Dallad

Ebony Dallas returns from her life changing experience in Paris.  As SCA's Paris Scholar, Ebony spent the spring studying painting and exploring Paris.

She comes back to SCA with a new found affection for fresh croissants, and feels that this was a transformative experience for her.

Ebony is already saving money for her next trip abroad; it is clear that she has caught the travel bug!  We are thrilled to welcome her back this fall and can't wait for her to share more of her stories and experiences with the SCA community!

Sage Supports Community Through Community Work Study

Last year, 140 students got paid via Federal Work Study funds to get valuable, resume building experiences at 29  of the Capital District's best non-profit organizations. Sound too good to be true? It's not... it's Sage's "Community Work Study" program.

Federal Work Study stipulations permit students to work in local community organizations, though nationally few students are aware of such employment options.  To encourage students to take advantage of nonprofit work options, Sage's Office of Career Planning targets organization's whose missions, target populations, and opportunities align with Sage's Academic Programs.

If you are a student or have students that could benefit from taking part in Community Work Study, please contact the Office of Career Planning at 292-1793 (Albany) or 244-2272 (Troy).
