During the Civil War, 140,000 soldiers were encamped in Stafford County as war raged around them, a reality that had tremendous impact on the area's land and people.

Wineries on the Rise

Wine sales have increased statewide and Stafford winery visitation is up. 

Virginia ranks fifth among states by number of wineries with more than 275.  Virginia is also the the nation's fifth-largest wine grape producer.

Virginia wineries sold more than 524,000 cases of wine in fiscal year 2015, representing upwards of 6.5 million bottles, compared to a little more than 515,000 cases the previous year.
Sales of Virginia wine have increased by 26 percent since fiscal year 2010 while sales at wineries increased 6.3 percent.
