Max's Healthy Tip of the Week:

Think orange when you do your grocery shopping.

Orange as in carrots, squash, oranges, peppers, cantalope, and pumpkins since these foods carry high levels of alpha-carotene, an extremely vital phyto-nutrient.  And the best way to get it seems to come from food, rather than a pill.

Maybe orange is the new green!

beware1
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has been advised that citizens are receiving phone calls from individuals who are representing themselves as Department employees.  The caller usually tells the citizen that there has been a warrant issued for their arrest for failure to appear for Jury Duty.

The caller will tell the victim that they have to pay a sum of money or deputies will come and arrest them.  The caller will instruct the victim to either get a Money Order, conduct a wire transfer, or buy a Gift Card (usually Green Dot) and send it to "pay the fine."

BE AWARE THAT THESE DEPARTMENTS DO NOT MAKE PHONE CALLS ASKING FOR MONEY.  THIS IS A SCAM.  HANG UP IMMEDIATELY!

DO YOU HAVE ICE ON YOUR CELL PHONE?
(Note - this has been in the newsletter often however it is so extremely important that you are aware of this great tool)

What is ICE?

It means "in case of emergency" and in case of an accident or other emergency, the person needed to contact is right there under that category.

So on your cell phone, make sure someone will have the means to contact the person who would need to know where you are. Just input that person's name and phone number and instead of using their name, just name it "ICE".  You can have them under both that name and their own name.  It's that simple and could be an extremely important asset in case of any kind of emergency!

ATTENTION:  ALL FORMER NEW YORKERS
IF YOU MISS THE OLD FASHIONED BAGELS
AND WANT TO TAKE A SHORT DRIVE
According to more than a few East Coasters, you've never really had a bagel until you've had a real Brooklyn bagel. We're talking about the kind of bagels that are toothy on the outside and doughy on the inside. Well, you don't necessarily have to take a trip to New York to hunt down a great bagel.  You can get one right here in Southern California, and we're happy to help you navigate this doughy terrain.

So allow us to take you on a trip down bagel lane.
