Max's Healthy Tip of the Week:

Include olive oil in your diet on a daily basis.

And if you use the extra virgin olive oil (evoo)

you will benefit from its higher

levels of antioxidant compounds.

EVOO aids in blood pressure, lowers the bad

cholesterol, promotes a

healthy gall bladder, and contains vitamins

E, A, and K, among many other numerous benefits.

No wonder olive oil has been called "liquid gold".

beware1
This week I received an email from "Bank of America" (and these scammers use all the banks - not just this one) saying "There has been some unauthorized use of your account" - so they would be suspending the use of the account. They wanted me to click on and fill out a "validation form". THESE ARE BOGUS - NEVER EVER RESPOND TO THESE TYPES OF COMMUNICATIONS. You can generally tell from the bad English and misspellings used - but at any rate, THESE ARE SCAMS - DO NOT FALL PREY TO THEM!    READ MORE HERE

important1  If sometimes you find you are not receiving our newsletter (on Thursday mornings), please check your "junk" or "spam" files.  It may have inadvertently ended up in one of those files.

Also one of the very first things you will see when you open the newsletter is this
"Having trouble viewing this email? Click here ".  If you will in fact click on that, it will open up the entire newsletter so that everything including all the information on the right hand side, will be visible.  This way the newsletter is much easier to read.

MARC WEISS TALKS ABOUT FINANCES
EXPERT FINANCIAL ADVICE FROM MARC WEISS

Naming a Trust as an IRA Beneficiary

If you have or plan to set up a Multi-Generational IRA strategy for your loved ones, Private Letter Ruling (PLR) 201430022 reminds us that naming a trust as the beneficiary of your IRA eliminates the opportunity for each beneficiary to stretch Required Minimum Distributions or RMDs over their individual life expectancies as the remaining IRA assets continue to grow on a tax-deferred basis.

FOUR CHAPLAINS BRUNCH

Sunday Feb. 8 at 1:00 pm

Please join the Legionnaires of Post 826 and four Chaplains from our community as they retell the incredible story of the heroism and sacrifice of the four Chaplains of the torpedoed USAT Dorchester, February 3, 1943 during World War II.

In a world where differences have all too often created conflict and separated the brotherhood of man, the Four Chaplains had a special kind of unity, and in that unity they found strength. Despite the differences of their faiths, they became even stronger "brothers" for they had two characteristics in common that overshadowed everything else: Their devotion and caring for their fellow man and because They All Four Shared the Same God. Come and hear, and be moved by their story

The full Brunch for only $10.00. Ceremony Starts @ 2:30pm. Further information call Bucky 818-692-0701     WEBSITE

THE ENCORE PROGRAM AT PIERCE COLLEGE
February 9 - May 29

The Encore program at Pierce College which is tailored for boomers and seniors has their new Spring schedule available.
SEE CATALOG HERE

FEBRUARY ANNUAL SALES
Valentine candy marked down drastically after the 14th. Most dramatic sale on specially designed Valentine's Day boxes and candies.

Major sales event: Watch for various Presidents Day sales; electronics are often discounted along with other major purchases.

Typical annual sales: As well as store sales, look for close-outs from big catalogue companies such as L.L.Bean and Land's End.

Major purchases typically on sale: Air conditioners, audiovisual equipment, computers, exercise equipment, furniture, mattresses, used cars. Look for sales around President's Day.

Beware: Jewelry stores often promote big sales around Valentine's Day, but the savings are often not much more than the regular price. Don't be fooled.

Fruits and vegetables: avocados, broccoli, cabbage, celery, endive, grapefruit, oranges, rutabagas. With some produce now available all during the year, many people have forgotten when fruits and vegetables are really fresh. Buying in season means that these items are often cheaper, fresher, taste better and that money may be going to local farmers.
