beware1
We got a call from "Microsoft" saying it was getting error messages from our computer. I felt certain it was a scam, but when I asked for a callback number, the caller immediately provided one and some sort of code for the Windows account. Made me pause.  Could this be real?

Well, neither home computer displayed any sort of error message. And an online search confirmed that this is a very common scam for gaining remote access to your computer and everything on it.

So, again, don't fall for the pitch of anyone who calls you, no matter how convincing. If you think it might be legit, ask for the name of the company or agency they supposedly represent. Then look up the number yourself and call to inquire. (It will most likely be a scam.)

DO NOT EVER LET ANYONE TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR COMPUTER UNLESS YOU KNOW AND TRUST THEM!

important1  If sometimes you find you are not receiving our newsletter (on Thursday mornings), please check your "junk" or "spam" files.  It may have inadvertently ended up in one of those files.

Also one of the very first things you will see when you open the newsletter is this
"Having trouble viewing this email? Click here ".  If you will in fact click on that, it will open up the entire newsletter so that everything including all the information on the right hand side, will be visible.  This way the newsletter is much easier to read.

MARC WEISS TALKS ABOUT FINANCES
EXPERT FINANCIAL ADVICE FROM MARC WEISS
IRA NEWS

People often ask about the roles that government plays in the IRA Rules.  For those not deeply familiar with IRA's, this may sound a little odd.  After all, what does the government have to do with retirement accounts anyhow?

The reality of the situation, however, is that many federal and state organizations and entities have some sort of control, power or determination as to how IRA's are treated.  I have compiled a brief list of some of these entities, but to be sure, this list is far from exhaustive.

PAIN IN YOUR UPPER BACK?  SHOULDERS?  LOWER BACK?
Have you tried a TENS unit?

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation.  Many people are finding relief from certain types of pain using these small devices.  Instead of using painkilling medications, try using one of these alternative types of treatment.  And there are no side effects using a TENS unit as there are when taking medicine for pain.

And in some cases, the use of these devices could help to cut down on the use of excessive pain medication.  I personally have found amazing results using one of these units.

Go see Tal at Topanga Plaza on the lower level at his kiosk across from Victoria's Secret and try one of these pain relieving units.   You will be amazed how efficiently they will help to relieve some types of discomfort.

JANUARY ANNUAL SALES
Most people know about after-Christmas-sales with savings of 50%-90% on cards, decorations and candies. Keep cards in a box with a small freshener and they will look brand new next year. In addition look for substantial discounts on items that were hot sellers at Christmas time such as winter clothing, cookware, kitchen gadgets, housewares, rugs and toys. You may find these on the closeout shelves.

TYPICAL JANUARY ANNUAL SALES: Annual white sales; stock up on linens, sheets and towels.

MAJOR PURCHASES TYPICALLY ON SALE in January:  Appliances, furniture.

FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: avocados, broccoli, cabbage, celery, collards, endive, grapefruit, kale, oranges, rutabagas, tangerines, winter squash. NOTE: With some produce now available all during the year, many people have forgotten when fruits and vegetables are really fresh. Buying in season means that these items are often cheaper, fresher, taste better and that money may be going to local farmers.
