Max's Healthy Tip of the Week:

It's a classic cartoon joke that rabbits have great vision because of their high intake of carrots.

The good news for humans is that it's no joke! Vitamin A (which is abundant in carrots) is also known as retinol thanks to its benefits for vision, including

helping to maintain night vision.

But it's not just carrots that can help maintain eye health. Other orange veggies contain vitamin A, such as sweet potatoes, mangoes, apricots, and cantaloupe.

WOW

Did you know that you can keep bananas fresher, longer by wrapping the end of the bunch with plastic wrap. Better yet, separate each banana. The plastic wrap blocks ethylene gases from releasing out of the stem, consequently ripening the fruit too fast. Look for more WOWs in next week's newsletter!

5 COMMON MEDICARE MISTAKES TO AVOID
Here's how to keep your health-care costs down in retirement.   READ MORE HERE

DON'T KNOW WHAT TO MAKE FOR DINNER?
HAVING FRIENDS OVER FOR LUNCH - WHAT TO MAKE?
TIRED OF THE SAME OLD SAME OLD?
Well, help is on the way. Our friend Susie Jacobson, a health and nutrition expert, has graciously offered to share her simple, easy to make, very healthy recipes with us.

This week she presents "Fettuccini with Spinach Pesto". With so many people in love with pasta, she created one that is not only rich in nutrients but is easy to prepare. Frozen spinach saves you lots of time and still provides you with good nutritional value. If you have time, you can use fresh spinach for optimum flavor and nutrition.

And we hope you will enjoy it..... hopefully with family or friends!

JUNE ANNUAL SALES

Change or clean all the filters on air conditioners. These should be cleaned at least once a month in hot weather. You should have your central AC cleaned and examined by service company. NOTE: Find an established company with a good reputation. Avoid new companies that have no track record.

Raise the temperature of the AC; You will save about 5% for every degree you raise your thermostat over 70 degrees. Most people find they are quite comfortable at 75 degrees inside instead of 70. It is also less of a shock to your body to go outside into the hot air if the temperature in the house is not very cold.

Air out your basement - this is a good time to prevent mold and rot from taking over.

If your car has not been tuned in six months, get it tuned before summer travel.

TYPICAL ANNUAL SALES: Electronics, summer sporting goods also early summer clothes.

MAJOR PURCHASES TYPICALLY ON SALE: Furniture, mattresses.

FRUITS AND VEGETABLES: Apples, apricots, asparagus, bananas, bermuda onions, blackberries, blueberries, cabbage, cantaloupe, celery, cherries, corn, cucumbers, green or wax beans, green onions, lemons, limes, lettuce, nectarines, okra, peas, pineapples, plums, raspberries, radishes, rhubarb, strawberries, squash, tomatoes, watercress, watermelon. NOTE: With some produce now available all during the year, many people have forgotten when fruits and vegetables are really fresh. Buying in season means that these items are often cheaper, fresher and that money may be going to local farmers.
