Intermediate DSLR Photography
June 9 - July 14 (Saturdays) 10:00am - 1:00pm
Skill Level: Intermediate
Instructor: Gregory Mills - B.F.A., Studio Art, Appalachian State University
Fee: $100 Members, $115 Non-members
This class will teach you further use of your Digital SLR camera. Students will explore a variety of photography techniques including:
- Portrait photography including basic posing
- Black and white photography
Students should know how to shoot in aperture priority, shutter priority (time value) and how to adjust the aperture and shutter in full manual mode. For students that took Mills's Beginning to Intermediate DSLR Photography class, this will start where you left off. This class is designed so students who may need to miss one or two classes do not fall behind, as each week is an independent topic. Life Drawing

Skill Level: Beginning to Advanced

Fee: $130 Members, $145 Non-members
This studio course will teach and explore the basic technique of form building (skeleton shape and the form of muscles). The class also provides an overview of the drawing process as a form of visual thinking in relation to rendering the human figure. Working primarily from dry media (charcoal and graphite), students use line and tone to develop an understanding of proportions, structure, movement, rhythm, and anatomy of the figure. (Drawings will be from live nude models. Students under the age of 18 must have written parental consent to participate) Class is limited to 15 students. www.VilasTonape.com

Watercolor Portraiture

All levels of artists are encouraged to participate. Participants will learn the basics of creating watercolor portraits from a live model and develop their existing watercolor skills. Artists will learn how to "make art with the eyes," looking at the human form without naming all things visual from direct observation. OOAK Doll Making June 9 - July 14 (Saturdays) 1:00 - 4:00pm
Skill Level: Beginning
Instructor: George Nauck, studied under master doll sculptors, Lewis Goldstein and Jack Johnston
Fee: $130 Members, $145 Non-members
Students will design unique OOAK (one of a kind) dolls by sculpting and painting their dolls' head, hands, feet, and soft sculpted bodies. Everything (minus the dolls costume) is provided during this class; tools, ProSculpt polymer clay, paint, hair, armature, and body stocking. Students will leave with a completed doll.

VOLUME:
VOLUME is a grass roots program for local artists to share, grow and create through workshops and community. VOLUME's mission is to help aspiring artists explore new techniques while cultivating an arts community through a series of workshops. This summer will be the launch of VOLUME, starting with Vol. 1 - Back to Basics.

Learn to use traditional media in non-traditional ways to create a more unique body of work. Mediums will include: ink and pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil rub, collage and acetone transfer. Basic materials are provided.
