FINALLY - 2015 Washington State 
Legislature Adjourned!

Earlier today the 2015 Washington State Legislature adjourned - taking three special sessions to reach agreement on:A two-year $38.2 billion budget which:

  • Adds $1.2 billion to K-12 school funding to address the state Supreme Court's ruling that the state Legislature had failed to fully fund public education (though local levy equalization issues raised in the lawsuit remain unresolved by the legislature).

National Consumer Campaign 

Promoting Paper and Packaging Launched

Last week a new campaign designed to promote and increase consumer appreciation for paper and paper-based packaging was launched. The Paper & Packaging - How Life Unfolds ™ consumer campaign uses an emotional, story-telling approach to generate consumer appreciation for paper and paper-based packaging to reduce guilt about using these products and deepen consumer understanding of the industry's environmentally - friendly practices. 


The Paper and Packaging Board (P+PB), established as a checkoff program in 2014 by industry referendum, oversees this multimillion dollar campaign.

Where Are the Books? Libraries Under Fire 

as They Shift from Print to Digital

The hallmark of public libraries - the printed book, bound by covers and centuries of page-turning - is being shoved aside by digital doppelgangers.

Around the country, libraries are slashing their print collections in favor of e-books, prompting battles between library systems and print purists, including not only the pre-pixel generation but digital natives who represent a sizable portion of the 1.5 billion library visits a year and prefer print for serious reading.

but for the publishing industry in 2020, 

print will still dominate revenues 
Ovum's new Digital Consumer Publishing Forecast has been released.  It takes a five year view at how this sector will change. TheMediaBriefing looks at some of the key findings related to publishing's revenue mix. The resilience of print, despite the growth of mobile and digital consumption, may still be underestimated.

Digital is growing, but not as fast as you might think.  Even for the book industry in the US - the most digitised publishing industry in the most digitised market - print will still account for over a third of all revenue in 2020.
