Thank YOU!
It is because of you that we were able to reach PAST our goal this summer in our #Homestrech Campaign! We are now $50,000 closer to our budget we needed to complete campus critical buildings by the beginning
of next year.
Join us in this
exciting time and host an event this winter to help us get even closer!

R2R Success
The Rubbish to Runway ReFashion Show was held in Houston
for the
second year. This year, we had 30 designs on the runway that were
created by 14 different artists and designers. The fashions this year were
made out of tamale leaves, red solo cups, egg
cartons, and everything in between. Our audience almost doubled this year and hope to keep growing every year.

The first annual Rubbish to Runway Los Angeles was held on May 21st, 2016. It was a resounding success that included 8 designers, 15 outfits, and 140 tickets purchased. Held in Redondo Beach, CA the event showcased designs created from used, recycled, or repurposed materials. Famous designers like Isaac Newton and first time artists participated, along with accomplished models and even small children. Professional MC "Roxy Amezquita" kept the crowd engaged with Gena Calderoni and D!NK Music supplying the soundtrack for the evening. Be on the lookout for next year's event to get involved!
Big thanks to all the participants from the organizers:
Danny Paz,
Rocio Ortegon,
Coral Sandoval, Lupe Botello and
Lu Gomez.

Same Project, New Faces
This summer we said "Adios" to a great friend, mentor, and huge part of
Long Way Home. Genevieve resigned as Director of Development, after
6+ years giving her life to the project in Comalapa. It was with heavy heart that we had to see her go, but Tecnico Chixot will continue to progress successfully as she moves on to a new life.
We have added new staff members to the Long Way Home team as well! As Robin moves on to try and fill part of Genevieve's shoes, a new Volunteer Coordinator, Ariel is welcomed to Comalapa. Ashley, a nurse, has also joined us to improve our health!

New Life Line has been a huge supporter of our school Tecnico Chixot, working to get us funds to purchase materials and supply our students with the best education possible! This July we received a shipment of science equipment to supply our science labs. Huge thanks to New Life Line and Swimnurn Family Foundation for your generous donation. Our teachers and students are thrilled to have this opportunity.

10-Page Exclusive
This past March, Ron Wilson, a volunteer with Photographers Without
Borders (PWB) spent two weeks with the Long Way Home community. We are thrilled to announce that their newest magazine was released this August and features a 10 page article about our project and school, Centro Educativo Tecnico Chixot! The focus of his assignment was about the project and the families that are involved with us through employment and education. Follow the link below to purchase a copy of the online magazine or preview some beautiful photos.
