Summer Geospatial Workshops for Teachers

NH EPSCoR is excited to partner with the NH Educational GIS Partnership to offer three teacher-focused GIS/GPS institutes this summer. At these institutes, K-12 teachers will learn the basics of GIS and GPS technologies, they will be shown how these tools can be used to provide engaging experiences for their students. Research data and products produced through the NH EPSCoR Climate and Society project will be featured throughout all of these workshops, providing a real-world example of how mapping can be used to explore scientific questions. Not only are these workshops free to attend, teachers will be provided with stipends. All institutes will be held at the Hopkinton Middle High School in Contoocook, NH.

The NH Educational GIS Partnership will offer four, brand-new teacher-focused GIS/GPS institutes this summer. At these institutes, K-12 teachers will explore a variety of ways in which mapping technology can be used to enhance spatial literacy and thinking in students. Three of these classes will explore more advanced or often-ignored topics, such as the use of imagery in maps, the use of GIS to teach US history, and taking advantage of the full power of ArcGIS Desktop. A final institute will provide teachers with a hands-on assistance to determine exactly how GIS and GPS can be incorporated into their own classroom activities. These workshops free to attend (stipends may be available, pending funding). All institutes will be held at the Hopkinton Middle High School in Contoocook, NH.
