Summer Greetings

Dear Friends,

For many summer is the best time of year. The weather is warmer, days are longer
and  we reward ourselves with more time to enjoy outdoor activities. It's a time for graduations, celebrations, reunions, and of course summer vacation.

However, most of the families here at the San Francisco Ronald McDonald House will not be afforded a summer vacation this year, as they tackle challenging family situations. Serious medical conditions affect children year-round and for these families, we keep our rooms and programs open and available 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Because we know that illness doesn't take a holiday.

When a child is seriously ill, their parent needs to be completely focused on their child's care and support. At RMH we are committed to making the family's stay with us as welcoming and comfortable as possible, so they can focus on what's most important. We provide warm and nourishing meals, often served by our dedicated volunteers. Transportation around busy summer traffic in San Francisco is available. And all are welcome to find community at our family support dinners.

It is an honor and a pleasure for me to serve the families who stay with us at RMH and to work side-by-side with our selfless volunteers. Our House is filled with grace and compassion and with families who are truly inspirational. I am especially grateful to all of you who contribute your time, talents and financial resources. Thanks to all of you, we're keeping families together in San Francisco year-around. We could not serve our mission without you.

I wish you and your family a wonderful summer. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you would like to learn more about how you can join us as we provide a home-away-from-home and supportive community for families of children with critical illnesses.

Warm regards,

David Hartman

RMH-SF Proudly Introduces Day Pass Program

Earlier this year, the RMH Day Pass Program was introduced at our House at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital at Mission Bay. The Day Pass offers families, who are not current RMH residents, in-and-out privileges. They are given warm meals, use of the facilities and laundry areas at no cost. Given the hospital's increasing level of world-class pediatric subspecialty services, a growing number of critically ill children are rushed here every day, increasing the need to provide care for the families.

Realizing that families are often experiencing long days waiting for a child's treatment, providing comfort to a child who is staying at the hospital, or waiting for tests and doctor appointments, the Day Pass Program offers families a quiet and comfortable place during a challenging day.

Volunteers are the Heart of the House

Linda Ritchie believes in the importance of giving back to the community. Her commitment to this belief is easy to see.

Linda, a Calvary Church liaison and friend of Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco, has been an active volunteer with the House since 2004. For many of these years, she has been responsible for delivering fresh fruit to our Scott Street House, all generously donated to us by Bryan's Grocery on California Street.

Linda and other members from Calvary Church in San Francisco are amazing and have found several ways to help RMH! They contribute personal funds, fundraise, and frequently serve dinners at the House. Supporting us further, on September 24th, Calvary Church will be partnering with Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco at a volunteer fair! For more info, visit here

Like all of our volunteers, Linda is invaluable to the House. Through her dedication, friendly disposition and overwhelming generosity, she helps make our House a warm and hospitable place (with healthy fresh fruit too). We are forever grateful for Linda and her Calvary friends dedication to and generous support of RMH-SF!

ATI Charity Golf Classic 2017

On Friday, August 18, American Technologies, Inc. will be holding their ATI Charity Golf Classic 2017 benefiting Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco (RMH-SF). RMH-SF has been the proud beneficiary of the ATI Charity Golf Classic since 2014.

Gala 2017 - Our Most Successful Gala Yet

We offer our heartfelt thanks to donors, friends and volunteers who helped make our Gala 2017 "Our House" a tremendous success. Kudos to this year's honorees Deana and Harvey Freedman - they've been with us from our start in 1989 - and Genentech - philanthropic and volunteer supporters since 2011. Click here for more info about the Freedmans and Genentech.

Held at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco, this year's Gala raised a record-breaking $325,000 of support from our sponsors, live auction and fund-a-need donors. This year's FAN was directed to our comprehensive care program, which keeps the Houses operating 24/7 and open every day! Special thanks to emcees Cheryl Jennings and Mike Nicco of ABC7 News for creating a fun and lively evening and the San Francisco Girls Chorus for their unforgettable performance of "Our House". Finally, none of this would be possible without the leadership and support of our Gala Committee.

We hope you'll join us at next year's Gala.
New Faces

We are pleased to introduce Fabiana De Andrade as the new Food Service Manager for our House at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Mission Bay. Fabiana, who hails from Goiânia, Brazil, has a strong background in the food service industry and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in San Francisco.

While she has broad capabilities in preparing various foods, Fabiana's focus at the House is on healthy comfort foods. Fabiana takes pride integrating her hometown flavors into entrees like Brazilian lemon chicken stew, sweet breads, and cheese puffs. Current House favorites are Fabiana's delicious chocolate chip cookies, lemon cupcakes, and rosemary scones.

When Fabiana isn't busy preparing culinary feasts for our Mission Bay House, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons baking tasty desserts.
