Time . . . the special gift
Sometimes simply giving of yourself is the best gift of all. In August the Social Work Team from the University of Florida visited Senior Centers in Usumatlan and La Fragua during their trip to Guatemala. While spending time with the seniors, they played games, sang songs, listened to stories from their past and left them with much needed food baskets. Even though leaving them food was an important thing, the time they spent interacting with them was just as valuable. Memories were created that both the team members and the seniors will forever treasure in their hearts.

News From Kentucky
The Kentuckiana Branch of HIM partnered with the Integrated Community Ministries of McCreary County Kentucky, one of the poorest communities in our nation, to bring a weekend of fun to 10 of ICM's hardest working students. They spent 2 nights and 3 days in Louisville where they saw a baseball game, explored downtown Louisville and spent the day at a local amusement park. Thanks to our Kentuckiana Branch for providing this unforgettable weekend for them and to all of you who helped financially to support this awesome opportunity.

Another Successful Camping Trip
HIM sponsored 50 youth and their leaders from The Carpenter's House Church located in the inner-city of Chicago. Their days were filled with games, kayaking & canoeing, group sharing, chapel services and bonfires. HIM started this experience with them last year to give their youth an opportunity to get out of their surroundings, allowing them to come together building and strengthening relationships with each other and God. It was a fantastic weekend for all of us.
Highland Corn Roast
On Friday, August 1st, HIM was excited to once again volunteer along side the members of the Highland, Indiana Rotary Club at the Annual Highland Corn Roast. This is always a great time meeting new and old friends, serving food and helping to shuck hundreds of ears of corn.
Ecuadorian Firefighter Training
The week of August 25-29, HIM along with Firefighter Hearts United hosted 14 Firefighters from Ecuador to participate in training at the Carol Stream, Illinois Fire Station. Their training consisted of many different rescue scenarios where they were able to receive hands on instruction from local Firefighters. This was an amazing week for all involved and we are so appreciative to all those who volunteered to make this a huge success.

Resale Shoppe Employee Honored
taken from the Munster High School 2014 Yearbook:
". . . In the summer of 2011, senior Ian Clark, visited Kolkata, India where he felt the impact of the poverty there. From that point on, he made it his mission to help change the world in any way he could. In India, he began to tutor children in English and came back to Munster, IN with a motivation to help those in need. This is where Ian's journey with Hearts In Motion begins. HIM gives care and medical support to communities in the United States, Central America and South America through a local resale shoppe where some of their profits go towards various projects. Students, like Ian, work and volunteer in various parts of the store and help towards the effort to better other people's lives. 'I volunteered at HIM after quitting my last job and needed something to do over the summer,' Ian said. 'I had previously tutored English to children in India, and understood the poverty facing South Americans and what HIM was doing.' "

We say good bye to a great friend . . .

Jo Mattingly transitioned to God's care on July 20, 2014. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, dentist and friend to so many. She possessed an incredible smile, which seldom left her face, and she graced each day with immense joy and optimism. Spending time with Jo left people feeling better about themselves and life in general. We are saddened by her home going, she will be greatly missed by her Hearts In Motion family.
