Rev. Catherine Torpey. But Lot's Wife Looked Back

After an incident which bothers, or even traumatizes, us, we are often told to "get over it" or "move on."  Our friends and colleagues might be annoyed by our lamentations, or they might feel that they are genuinely helping us to "let it go."  We might be the one telling ourselves that "we should be over it" -- whatever the "it" might be.

Often, however, we just can't let things go.  From things as small as an unintentional slight by a friend to things as devastating as the death of a loved one, it can be difficult to know what to do when a hurt or affront simply stays with us, long past when we thought it should fade.  This sermon explores that which will not let us go.
Catherine was the Intern Minister at our congregation in 2002, and former Minister at UU Freeport, Long Island. Currently she is the Executive Director of the Focusing Institute and believes that all people everywhere can benefit from the insight, compassion and wisdom gained from honoring the felt sense.

11:30am: Focusing Workshop

Catherine is the Executive Director of The Focusing Institute.  Focusing is a mind-body connection practice which is compatible with other such practices and with deep spiritual, philosophical and emotional self-exploration. While Catherine was an intern at CUC, she taught Focusing to a small group of people over the course of eight weeks. On July 12 she will offer a workshop of about an hour following the service.

Sharing Sunday Offerings
Summer: Kiva
Each month we share 25% of our plate offerings with outside organizations in need. Kiva connects people through lending to alleviate poverty. The CUC 5th-6th grade class created a Kiva account and has lent $300 in ten different countries. As the loans are paid back, they will be able to re-lend the money.
See Rev. Garmon if you have an idea for a future monthly plate share.

Lifespan Religious Education

Dear RE Families, Teachers, and Friends,

We hope to see you on summer Sundays when you are not away. There is a great lineup of guest preachers and speakers this summer, along with some fun planned for the kids. Please see the following three (3) announcements:

1. Summer Games for Kids

During the summer services, our high school youth will be leading activities and games for the younger children. It will be a fun time for children, while parents attend the services.

2. Thank You RE Volunteers 2014-2015

Religious Education volunteers were honored at our RE Sunday service. Please CLICK HERE to see the full list of volunteers this year and be sure to thank them when you see them at CUUC. They are changing lives and being changed in the process.

3. We Need You

The CUUC RE program needs you to Foster, Mentor, and Nourish our children & youth next year.

Tell Perry ([email protected]) or an RE Council member you're IN and committed for RE at CUUC.

Sincerely,
