Civil Unrest in Haiti
As you've likely seen on the news, several days of demonstrations took place in Haiti earlier this month following an announcement by the government that fuel prices would increase by as much as 51 percent . The government has since suspended the fuel hike, and the Prime Minister has resigned. While things have been relatively calm in recent days, tension remains. Read more

Project Medishare has been delivering healthcare in Haiti for nearly 25 years. We’ve been there through many political uprisings, humanitarian crises and natural disasters, and we will continue to be there, saving lives and building healthy communities. Thank you for your ongoing support and generosity.

Volunteers Step Up During a Crisis
What do a Haitian born Emergency Medicine Resident, an Italian Neurosurgeon now living in New York and an EMT that works at a wilderness camp in Alaska have in common? Meet (L to R) Vikye Beauport, Paolo Bolognese and Tommy Kuehn, three Project Medishare volunteers who went to Hospital Bernard Mevs to help, not knowing what vital roles they would end up playing during their deployment.

When violent protests erupted in Port-au-Prince on July 6, many staff members could not travel to work at the hospital; roads were blocked and unsafe. Vikye, Paolo and Tommy jumped in, working tirelessly alongside the hospital staff that were there. For the next three days, they filled any role needed without complaint or thought of their own needs. Their care and support for the people of Haiti, both patients and staff members, went above and beyond. And because of their dedication to stand beside their Haitian team through a difficult situation, several lives were saved.
Lahoye Maternity Center Opens
On April 16, Project Medishare opened the doors to our new maternity center in Lahoye, a remote village near the border with the Dominican Republic. A few days later, we welcomed the first baby born at the center: a baby girl.

Mylanda was born on April 21 at 2:34am. Her 23-year-old mom has two other children, both of which were delivered at home because there was no maternity center nearby. Mylanda is just the first of many healthy, beautiful babies that will now be born in a safe, caring environment under the care of our skilled midwives. Read more
A Day of Advocacy on Capitol Hill
Project Medishare's Executive Director, Renee Lewis, traveled to Washington DC in April to advocate for continued U.S. investment in global health programs. The experience not only gave Renee the opportunity to share with lawmakers how U.S. funding is directly helping to reduce diseases, improve access to treatment, and save lives in developing countries like Haiti, it also highlighted the value of making our voices heard. Capturing Special Moments with Polaroid
Thanks to a donation of instant digital cameras from Polaroid, moms who give birth at a Project Medishare maternity center will receive a keepsake photo of their newborn a simple luxury that many rural moms cannot afford.

Photographer Hatnim Lee taught our staff how to use the cameras, and gave them some helpful pro tips.
Health Agents Receive Blood Pressure Training
Project Medishare's health agents attended a training on high blood pressure, during which they learned how to take a patient's blood pressure and received a blood pressure monitor.

Ensuring that community health agents have the skills and tools they need, improves their ability to provide lifesaving care to Haitian families.
Volunteers from Ireland Conduct CPR Training
Ciara Luke, an emergency medicine physician, and Ciara Terry, a pediatrician, conducted two days of CPR training for Project Medishare's medical staff in the Central Plateau.

The two friends traveled from Ireland to conduct the training, and they also spent a few weeks volunteering at Hospital Bernard Mevs.
