Greetings!

Another school year has come to a close for Safe At Home and our 13,000 students. It's been a busy - and sometimes difficult - spring. Our students and our leadership have been front and center as our country deals with some difficult conversations on trauma and violence. Check out some of our critical work from the past few months at Safe At Home.
Celebrations in Cincinnati
On May 24, we celebrated the end of our first year of providing trauma support and awareness to children in Cincinnati, Ohio. Joe Torre made a special appearance to share his story and answer questions from peer leaders, who kicked off the ceremony with their own testimonials and a short skit. Their testimonials were focused on how their school community has changed for the better with access to our safe room, Margaret's Place. "Students know they can come to Margaret's Place and have someone they can talk to," said eighth grader Morgan. "It's nice having that, because a lot of schools don't have a dedicated space where kids can go. Those kids may not know where to go."
Spring awareness campaigns
Throughout the spring, all of our Margaret's Place school locations lead their own, unique awareness campaigns. This annual tradition gives our peer leaders the chance to showcase what they've learned throughout the year. Most importantly, it empowers our peers to think about the issues that their fellow students are struggling with the most.

More than 200 peers took the initiative to carry out awareness campaigns on an array of issues they felt their classmates needed support to manage: gun violence, bullying, consent, depression, healthy relationships, and more .
You can check out a full collage of our spring campaigns on  Facebook , Twitter , and Instagram . Peer leadership is just one of the ways that we empower young people to end the cycle of violence -  consider making a gift today to support our peer leadership activities for next year .
CohnReznick CARES
Earlier this month, we were honored to be chosen by CohnReznick LLP as one of their beneficiaries for their annual Charity Golf Invitational: CohnReznick CARES. Joe joined forces with CohnReznick's Chief Executive Officer and our newest board member Frank Longobardi for tee off at this all-day golf outing. Executive Director Yolanda Jimenez took the stage during dinner to reflect on our great partnership with the company before introducing one of our former peer leaders - and current Alumni Intern - David.

When David took the stage, he shared his experience as a young man educating others about consent and healthy masculinity. It's a key topic that we're addressing in new workshops that are shaped and led by alumni like David.

In early May, Safe At Home leadership Joe and Yolanda joined New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo as he signed legislation that prevents domestic violence perpetrators from purchasing and owning guns, and requires that perpetrators surrender all firearms. Joe was quoted in a press release issued by Governor Cuomo's office: "Domestic violence victims are five times more likely to be killed if their significant other owns a gun. Today, New York State is taking a strong stance by keeping guns away from abusers - thereby saving countless lives." Our staff and Governor Cuomo were also joined by Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, and U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. A highlight of the ceremony included a brief speech by Aalayah Eastmond, a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.  Watch a video of Aalayah's remarks and the full signing ceremony online now .
Annual LA Dinner a rousing success
On April 25, we celebrated our seventh year of providing services in Los Angeles with our annual west coast dinner. Now with 5 locations in Los Angeles, nearly 5,500 children in California have access to our life-changing support.

The evening raised over $360,000, thanks to the generosity of our nearly 200 guests and special sponsors. In addition to remarks from Ali, Joe, and Yolanda, two of our peer leaders from one of our LA schools presented a fictional skit calling attention to sexual assault and consent - a key issue they've identified for their fellow students to talk about in order to create a safer school environment.

We'd like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters for making the evening so successful, and express our gratitude to our All Star Evening panel of celebrities and sports stars.  View a full list of sponsors online , and be sure to look at some  snapshots of the celebration on our Facebook page .
