New Block of the Month!

Announcing "Sweet Tooth"-Our summer 2016 Block of the Month !!!

Take a trip through the penny candy store with
Sweet Tooth!  Designed by Jaybirds own Julie Herman,
Sweet Tooth is a spectacular quilt! We have this divided into 7 months as a block of the month!  Come once a month and get a demo of two sections of the quilt until you get them all (there are 12 sections total) then we discuss putting the background together in the last month!

The quilt is a nice size twin - 65" x 88", so it makes a great statement!  A total of 24 blocks, the quilt features 12 unique blocks all created with the Super Sidekick and Hex N More Rulers!  There are no pesky Y seams!  Each month you'll take 2 1/2" strips and create two of the unique 12 blocks.  You will make two of each, so 4 blocks in total per month.    This way we get done quicker!  Creative fabric placement will make your quilt appear to have 24 different blocks!

Fabrics for the quilt are Kona Solids by Robert Kaufman, and we will be using pre-cut kits supplied by Kaufman.  There are 60 block colors and 2 additional background fabrics included in each quilt kit!  WOW! The quilt pictured uses the exact fabrics we will be supplying.

So come and join our program!

Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet..... but this is no ordinary tuffet!! Everyone is making them!!  These become iconic furniture for any room in the house!  Make them in any fabric!  We supply ALL the construction materials needed in our kits, included the legs, the foam, the wooden platform, the pattern - even the great big tuffet needle to get the button on!!  What you have to supply or purchase is your fabric for the tuffet top and some muslin, as well as upholstery thread for the button. They are so fun to make!!   We have already had two classes and this will be our third!!  Very simple to construct!  The tuffet top is foundation pieced with foundations from the pattern.  You can use any 2" x 22" strips.  It takes 38 strips, so a jelly roll will actually make 2!!  You make four sections of 8 strips, so can repeat 8 fabrics 4 times, or 16 fabrics twice, or make each strip different!  Your choice!  Or choose our kit with the Kaffe fabric!  We have a special price on our Kaffe fabric kit for our class participants of only $29.99.  Everyone just loves the tuffet, so make one today!  Skill Level:  Confident Beginners and above.

New ! May Flowers Bench Pillow!
This bench pillow if one of the designs from KimberBell.  It is such a cute flower pillow that we just had to do it for summer!  It would look darling sitting on your lawn furniture or in your screen porch, or any room to bring a little sunshine in!  Our shop sample is still in progress, so we don't have that one to show you just yet, but it will be cute!!  The project is an embroidery machine in-the-hoop  and applique project!  So, all you embroidery machine owners, come take a look!  If you have never done embroidery applique in the hoop, it is very easy!  The "software" and the written directions tell you how to do each step so you get perfect designs.  This is great for beginners who are new to embroidery applique, but is appealing to anyone wanting to do a fun project for summer.  But wait, that is not all!!  All the Kimberbell patterns feature an SVG file you can send to your cutting machine, like the Artistic Edge, or Cameo Silhouette, to have all the cutting done by the machine!!   So, we have a class for prepping the applique with the Artistic Edge, and then a class to do the actual embroidery.  You can sign up for both, or just one of the classes.  Great way to learn your machines!  Here are more detailed descriptions of the classes:

Part 1:  The Cutting
Okay.  You can cut the flowers out with fusible web using the tracing method.  No problem.  If you have not done this before, come to this class and Debbie will show you how!

Orrrrrrrrrr,  you can cut the flowers out using your cutter, like our Artistic Edge!  We will show you how!!  You can come and use OUR Artistic Edge - we will have a station set up, or you can bring your own Artistic Edge and do all the cutting!  We'll be here to assist you!  (If you have another brand cutter, you can come and use our Artistic Edge and transfer the skill sets to your own brand of cutter at home - or maybe you'll just fall in love with the Artistic Edge cutter!).

2 choices!  Both of them good!!  Let us know which works for you!

Dates:  Thur Eve. July 21                   6:00 - 9:00  pm
Instructor:  Debbie Stark                      Fee:  $25

Part 2:  The Applique Embroidery

This class takes you through all the actual applique and embroidery in the hoop!!  Debbie will take you through the techniques used in this pattern to embroider out the lovely flowers and pots!  You will come with your applique pieces already cut and ready to fuse and your embroidery software already loaded.  You will also need to come with your background pillow put together and quilted.  Then, you will create the lovely flowers and pots design in this piece!  Debbie will also show you how we did the fun ribbon flowers!

Dates:  Sat., July 30                                       9:00 - 12:00 pm
Instructor:  Debbie Stark                                 Fee:  $ 25
