At Amani, our objective is to create lifelong readers who think critically about what they read.  We've worked hard all year long to strengthen our students' reading and writing skills.  In an effort to keep our students reading over the summer months and to avoid learning losses, known as "Summer Slide," our school has made it a priority to keep our scholars' skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer long.

In order to maintain the gains our scholars have made in reading and writing, we suggest that all scholars continue to read at least 20 minutes per day.  Our Summer Reading Assignment is for all students to read a minimum of four books (fiction or non-fiction).

Students should keep track of the books they have read (Author/Title/Genre/Date) to enter into their Reading Logs when they return to school.  During the opening days of school scholars will also be sharing the books they have read and writing responses about their books.

Below you will find a recommended reading list for your scholar's grade.  A variety of genres has been included from which s/he can choose to read.  Most of them can be found in any public library or bookstore. Also included are various activities you can do along with your scholar.

Thank you for joining us in our efforts to create passionate, life-long readers.  We wish you a safe and enjoyable summer of reading pleasure.

BTW, these lists were also sent to you via email.
