108 SUN SALUTATIONS CLASS

 

 

Celebrate the arrival of summer with Diane Lanthier on June 21st from 9:30 a.m. to 12;00 p.m. for "108 Sun Salutations", an ancient yogic tradition that welcomes the change of seasons. 

 

Why 108? A sacred number in many traditions...
- There are 108 Upanishads - Indian Philosophy's Vedic Text
- Shiva, an important in Hindu God, has 108 names
- Traditional Tibetan malas are strung with 108 beads
- According to Yogic tradition we have 108 marma points of life force energy in the body

 

 

That's a whole lot of Sun Salutations right?  No worries, we will be giving you lots of breaks and options throughout the practice so that you can work at just the right pace for you.

Namaste- An ancient greeting


It's so common for yoga teachers to end classes with "Namaste". We place palms together at the heart, bow and end our practice with this simple greeting.  This is a simple gesture with deep roots. "Namaste" or "Namaskar" is the common form of greeting in India, often used by Hindus when greeting or parting company.  It is similar to when we say "Hello" and "Goodbye" to each other. The combination of the "Namaste" greeting accompanied by a slight bow and hands pressed together at the chest known as Anjali mudra literally means:  "The Spirit in me salutes the Spirit in you" or "The Divine in me honours the divine in you" and my personal favorite  "The light in me honours the light in you".

 

Whichever greeting appeals to you, it's a simple gesture to honour one another, our teacher and the tradition of yoga.

This  "tangled and twisted" Detox Yoga class is based on Hatha Yoga with a touch of Vinyasa Flow!

HAPPY 30th ANNIVERSARY TO THE KANATA FOOD CUPBOARD!

30th Anniversary Event

The Kanata Food Cupboard is marking its 30th anniversary this year by holding a special community event on Saturday, May 30th from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

 

Join us for live music, face painting, bouncy castles, a barbeque and much more!  All activities will take place in the parking lot of the Kanata Food Cupboard's warehouse at 340 Legget Drive, Unit #46.  In case of rain, activities will be moved inside the warehouse.

Longer daylight hours and warmer days means summer is just around the corner! More people are out on the Greenbelt pathways and River Parkways engaging in great exercise such as walking, running and biking. In general, our spirits and energy are up. To help support our increased drive for health and wellness, it's important that we nourish our bodies with lots of water and nutrients. Here are a couple of suggestions to help support your body during the summer months:

 

1) Infuse your water. Infused water with such combinations of mint and cucumber or lemon and lime citrus give extra nutrients to our bodies and are often more inspiring to drink.

 

2) Buy local. Check out local farmer's markets or sign up for a community shared agriculture to not only support local farmers but also decrease your carbon footprint and increase the nutrients in your food. Nutrients deplete during transportation from fields to plates so optimize on nutrient consumption with locally grown food.
