Hope you are having a great summer! God is doing great things and we are so grateful to see His hand at work through His people. We have a lot of great news to share with you, as well as a recap of our time in Phoenix.
We are happy to introduce you to three new members of Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists ~
Rusty Kuhn of Carriere, MS; Matt Taylor of Bon Aqua, TN; and Laura Torres of Lavonia, GA. Please visit their profile pages on our website to learn more about them and their ministries, and take a moment to send them a word of welcome! W
e are also glad to welcome back Ron and Claudia Henderson, Daniel Howard, Lyndon Longoria, and Sid Peterson! Let's all work together to encourage our fellow evangelists in their ministries; fellowship, friendship, and genuine love for each other is vital, especially for those of us called to evangelism. We need each other.
ARIZONA BILTMORE RETREAT
What a joy to report to you the great things God did at the Convention in Phoenix!
Beginning with our Evangelists' Retreat at the historic Arizona Biltmore Hotel, with special messages from Dr. Paige Patterson, President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Dr. Nathan Lorick, Director of Evangelism for the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, along with worship, devotionals, and
times of sharing among our evangelists, our retreat was blessed with a sweet spirit of love, joy, and encouragement that was palpable. Our annual business meeting brought about some positive changes that I will share with you a bit later; our entire slate of officers was
re-elected for another year of service with Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists. We are excited about what God is going to do in this next year as we serve Him!
On Sunday, June 11, we partnered with First Southern Baptist Church of Phoenix on a powerful morning worship celebration, with worship music led
by music evangelists Russell and Kristi Johnson and Amy; preaching messages by Richard Hamlet and Sammy Tippit; and testimonies by Steven Stockwell, Dean Forrest and Richard Green. Dean and Richard were specially honored for their service of 25 and 50 years in full-time evangelism, respectively. Pastor Steve Hayes brought his multi-cultural church together for a wonderful celebration, with many countries and people groups represented. Many people re-committed their lives to being witnesses for Christ, and five people made public professions of faith in Christ.
Frank Shivers led two ladies to Christ right after the service ~ one of our waitresses at the Biltmore had been so intrigued by our group during our retreat, and saw our advertisements for our Sunday AM service, that when her daughter "out of the blue," for the first time in years, said, "Mom, I want to go to church on Sunday!" ~ that mom knew exactly where she wanted to attend ~ FSBC, to hear our evangelists minister. God moved, and lives were changed.
HARVEST AMERICA CRUSADE
We all attended the Harvest America Crusade at the University of Phoenix Stadium, and were overjoyed to see more than 3,000 people make public professions of faith that night! After some great worship by
MercyMe, Phil Wickham, Jordin Sparks, and others, Greg Laurie presented the Gospel with clarity and power, and people responded in an incredible way. We were honored to meet Greg a couple of nights later at the Convention; what a joy it was to hear him so clearly articulate the need for God-called, anointed evangelists to be used in our churches and across our Convention, and exercise their God-given gifts. Pray for Greg, as he has an incredible platform right now to reach America and the world through crusade evangelism.
SOUTHWEST SUPPER SING-A-LONG
As mentioned, our officers were re-elected for another year and we are honored to serve. We have a great deal of work to do, and some exciting possibilities coming our way for the Dallas Convention. One of the main items we attended to at our business meeting is our executive leadership's decision to streamline our business and financial dealings by re-incorporating our organization, Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists, in the State of Texas.
Our "Southwest Supper Sing-A-Long," had a great turn-out, attended by over 150 convention-goers,
and featured our music evangelists Russell and Kristi, Amy, Kay Cox and the Cox's daughter Kay Jordan, and some great food, fun and fellowship. We all had some great opportunities to meet and greet
pastors and other leaders, and to promote the ministry of Southern Baptist Evangelists, through our booth on the exhibit hall floor, one-on-one conversations, and various events. We are already looking forward to next year, when the Convention will be hosted in Dallas.
Mark your calendars for June 8-13, 2018,
as we are already working on events and activities for that special time.
COSBE EXHIBIT BOOTH
Our exhibit booth on the Convention floor hall was put together this year by many hard-working hands, and we are grateful for the help of all our officers,
Bruce Kugler, Phil and Teresa Glisson, and Steven Stockwell. The booth offers a great place for us to meet and greet pastors and others throughout the Convention; it is your "office" away from home, and we
hope that next year in Dallas, you will plan to join us and use the booth to promote your ministry and that of your fellow evangelists. This is a service to you and your ministry, and one of the benefits of being a member of Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists. We hope to see you in Dallas.
HALL OF FAITH
One of the great things Dr. Patterson shared with us at our retreat is the seminary's plans, in conjunction with the opening of the new Lottie Moon mission house display and other capital projects, to establish a new, magnificent Hall of Faith hallway at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, showcasing our honored Hall of Faith evangelists, and focusing on the gift and calling of evangelists in God's Word! Our own Bob Smith and Steve Hale visited with Dr. Patterson about this last fall, and through subsequent conversations with David and others, Dr. Patterson believes the HOF display will come to fruition soon. We will induct two new members to our Hall of Faith this next year, so be praying about whom you might like to see honored in this special way. We have a number of members who will also be honored for 50+ years of service as a full-time evangelist, so make your plans to attend the Dallas Convention, and be a part of these proceedings.
EVANGELISM TASK FORCE
Another item of terrific news is the decision of our SBC President, Dr. Steve Gaines, to establish an evangelism task force to find ways to increase effectiveness of personal soul- winning and evangelistic preaching, and to reverse the decline in
baptisms Southern Baptist Churches. Our dear friend, Dr. Patterson, will serve on this task force, along with Dr. Gaines, and 16 other pastors, seminarians, and leaders.
Let's pray for Dr. Gaines and this group of godly men. Let me encourage you to reach out and offer your prayer, support, and help to any and/or all of these task force members, as they work on these issues, and ask God for clarity, direction, and help. We are all in this together -- let's be of service to our Southern Baptist leaders with all graciousness and a servant's heart, and pray that God will have mercy on all of us as we are His ambassadors, everywhere we go.

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
The new entity is a 501(c)3, and after all of the paperwork is finalized and approved, we will dissolve the two existing organizations: COSBE Publishing of Mississippi, a 501(c)3, and Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists of Georgia, a 501(c)6. Our existing financial accounts will simply roll over into the new entities' accounts. Motions were brought to the floor and approved to move forward on these changes. Putting these items in order will help us to be much more efficient in our work, and will save money as well. A copy of the Minutes from our meeting, revised By-Laws, and Statement of Financial Position for the fiscal year of 2016-2017 are forthcoming.
Just a reminder to you that all of your
Southern Baptist Evangelist officers
serve on a volunteer basis. Your officers have put in a great deal of time and effort to make sure Southern Baptist Evangelists are well-represented in our Convention and to churches across the nation.
As you know, we operate on a very tight budget, as our only sources of income are your membership dues and special donations. Your officers are putting in resources from their own ministries to help keep the business of COSBE running. Please pray for us, that God will continue to provide, so that we can continue the work He has given us to do.
Membership dues for the current year are due no later than September 30; please plan to
pay your dues on time
, which will help us tremendously with our bill-paying and expenditure obligations. I do want you to know that the SBC Executive Committee, under the direction of President Frank Page, made a generous donation to COSBE this year, which helped us cover the cost of our booth on the exhibit hall floor in Phoenix. For that, we are deeply grateful.
It's been a terrific year, and we are off to a great start for the next one. Thank you for serving the Lord so faithfully, and fulfilling your ministry as an evangelist. Ephesians 4:11-13. You are my heroes!
