PASTOR'S PONDERINGS
Pastor's Ponderings for Sunday, August 20 , 2017

Our texts this Sunday:

Matthew 15:10-20

Paul states in verse 29, "for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable," What do you hear in this statement about your gifts from God and your vocation?

Jesus states, "What comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this is what defiles us." (verse 28) What defiles us?

How does what comes out of the mouth not only defiles us but define us? For good or evil?

In light of recent events, these passages speak Truth that is hard to hear. What Truth do you hear Jesus speaking? What do you do with that Truth?

As we approach them together I want you to be "ponder" of a couple of things....

Bring these thoughts with this Sunday. And feel free to  email me with your thoughts or questions. I'd love to hear from you...really!

Blessings,

Pastor Renee

Thank you to all who donated toilet paper last month! Ralph Reeder was so grateful for our generous donations and as such, we asked them what they are in need of next.

For the month of August we are collecting laundry detergent to help meet the needs and those of our community. So if you are out shopping for laundry detergent pick up some more and bring it into the Narthex. Let's see how much we can bring in!
Fall Day of Service

Mark your Calendars for our Fall Day of Service, September 10: 10am worship, potluck lunch, many service projects to choose from!

Why We Serve
Why We Serve: "Jesus goes to his death with clarity and confidence, faithful to God to the end and treating his death as an expression of service to his friends. Paraphrasing Micah 6:8, we can say that Jesus saw with clarity right to the end what God demands of every human being: 'you must go on doing justice and loving tenderly.' He also saw with clarity that we must continue 'humbly' walking with God in history."-Jon Sobrino, "Jesus the Liberator: A Historical Theological Reading of Jesus of Nazareth"
