As the school year comes to a close (for some of you, it already is done), it's good to remember that our office is still open. The staff here at Region 3 will be taking some vacation days, but we've got you covered. We'll be working on projects: "Oh No, ELO!" on June 12, Leadership Boot Camp June 13 & 15, Listening Project August 7th - and two of our Locals, Appleton EA and Sheboygan EA will be participating in a Summer Organizer program. Plus, we'll be planning kick-off events that will start the 2017-18 school year with a bang! We'll still send out "The Connection" over the summer, but expect the editions to be abbreviated - and there will be no edition for July 7.
Best wishes for a summer that is all you dream it to be!
Peace
--Kathy Rohde
Regional Director
Staff Liaison to WR3 Membership / PR Committee
"The Connection: Membership Edition" is the brainchild of Region 3's Membership and PR Committee: Greg Ubbelohde (New Holstein EA) & Kandace Larsen (Marinette EA) are the co-chairs and welcome new committee members at any time! We all hope you find this once-a-month publication inspiring and helpful!

The Ten-Minute Meeting
All too often we hear, "there's no reason to hold a meeting if there's nothing to report/decide/vote on." Or, we hear, "I'm not sure we have a union because there are never any meetings." But mostly, we hear, "I don't have TIME to go to ANOTHER meeting."
In December, we introduced the 10-minute meeting and the ways it can address all of the above. In January, we offered NEA Benefits as a topic for a 10-minute meeting, in February, we took on voter registration and information about the primary election, in March we offered a simple handout for union contact information, in April we talked about Non-renewal and Renewal of Individual Teacher Contracts, and in May
we presented information about your WRS statement.
We'd like to hear from you! Are you trying the 10-minute meeting approach? How's it working? Reply
here
to give us feedback.
This month, we'll take a break because, hey, it's June and I bet you're not planning any 10-minute meetings as the school year comes to a screeching halt.
Watch for this feature again in August!

June Leadership Boot Camps

Leadership Boot Camp:
The Zone Challenge
We've been told that the name "Boot Camp" sounds scary. Don't be fooled. Last year's participants were very impressed with
the fast-paced and informative discussions.
And who knew that a presentation of your grievance rights --
"Weingarten Rights"--
could take place in a "WINEgarden?"
4 areas will be explored: best communication practices, recruiting and nurturing volunteers, Weingarten Rights,
and NEA / WEAC / Region basics.
Zone B has accepted the challenge and will hold their Leadership Boot Camp at the WR3 office on Tuesday, June 13th from 12:30 - 4:30 pm.
Zone A has accepted the challenge and will hold their
Leadership Boot Camp at a
cottage on Maiden Lake
on Thursday, June 15th from 12:30 - 4:30 pm
You can attend either one of the workshops listed above OR organize your own (this workshop is great for your Local's building reps!).
Here is a
flyer
advertising the new Workshop.
Here's a registration form. (ignore the deadline date) Sign up today!
