Canada Day Celebrations!
Happy Canada Day! We hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday long week-end. Don't forget your visuals when heading out for a picnic, to a parade or nighttime fireworks. A schedule of what will happen next can help with transitions during new activities.
Thank-you to Autism Speaks Canada
Lisa and I had a great day on June 10th at the Autism Speaks Canada Walk in London, despite the windy weather! Thanks to Autism Speaks Canada for inviting us to attend. We enjoyed meeting everyone there.

If you know of an upcoming event in your area let me know. We like attending events!

Autism Ontario Family Activities
Looking for a fun activity to do with the family this summer? Autism Ontario Chapters across Southwestern Ontario have you covered.

In the News
In case you missed them, there were some great articles this past month in the news.

In Woodstock the Safe Cycling Family Bike Day helped raise funds for an autism service dog for a local family.

Colchester Beach and Harbour will be wrapping up their accessibility improvements including simple language signs and an accessible splash pad.

Last month was the first video from Maxwell Adamson in his documentary series. Maxwell is on the autism spectrum and interviews other individuals on the spectrum. This month we met Charissa.
Resource Corner
Summer is here and school is over and children may be spending more time outside. Here are some tops for making your summer fun and safe.

Summer Safety
Here is a great idea to get you started on a social script for your child if he/she likes to leave the house without asking. Remember social scripts can be customized to be as short or long as your child needs. A social script can have visuals, words or both. Incorporate characters your child likes and review it often.

Preparing for camp
Summertime also brings with it summer camps. Here are some tips for preparing your child if they are attending a camp this summer.

Applying sunscreen
Don't forget to put on sunscreen! A few tips for applying sunscreen when your child/youth does not want to wear it.
  1. Make a routine and be consistent e.g., build it into the morning routine; before choosing which shirt to wear your child/youth first has to put on sunscreen
  2. Provide plenty of warning before applying sunscreen e.g., 5 minutes, 3 minutes and 1 minute warning before applying sunscreen
  3. Provide choice and independence e.g., choice between spray sunscreen or lotion sunscreen and ask the child/youth if he/she wants to apply sunscreen to his/her legs first or his/her arms
  4. Make it fun! e.g., allow your child to pick between applying the sunscreen as stripes like a zebra or spots like a cow
