New businesses offer their services to Summerland

This month the Chamber is pleased to welcome new businesses bringing their expertise to Summerland in a variety of areas.

Strachan Consulting has long been working within the wine industry to help new wineries establish their business from concept to consumer. While Will Enns Art Studio & Gallery creates acrylic paintings of wine, jazz, the Okanagan and Italy for personal or commercial use with his work being seen in movies, on TV, and as magazine cover art.

Two of the new businesses this month are there to help with our personal needs. A new childcare option is now available at Bobbi's House offering spaces for up to 7 children. While private practice Silver Feather - Intergrative Wellness provides holistic life coaching and spiritual mentoring services.

Providing more beds for visitors, Summerland Sleeps bed & breakfast has come to town providing space for up to 4 guests. The newest dollar store, Dollarama, has opened at Summerfair Plaza to offer low cost alternatives for any shopper.

Jaysa Plumbing & Heating Ltd. have started their operations to provide services including renovations, service calls, new builds, residential & commercial work.

Winery adds spirit program to its portfolio

Okanagan Crush Pad added craft distillery to its name with the launch of its grape based brandy in a vodka style grappa, "Narrative Distilled Small Batch".

Chief winemaker, Matt Dumayne, who has years of experience distilling in his native New Zealand, will direct the spirit program.

Dumayne will continue to use Okanagan grown grapes as a base and will age the spirit in old Pinot Noir barrels. The winery has also distilled additional products and will offer it to other wineries wishing to fortify wines with grape-based spirits.
New products expand company's appeal

Ceres Seed Oils are committed to delivering natural, high nutritional value products, as a healthy alternative for consumers. After the success of their all natural seed oils the company has now diversified to offer sauces and spice blends.

The Ombu Chimichurri Sauce is based on the Argentinian marinade or dressing used on many traditional dishes. The complementary Red Pepper Chimichurri spice blend is used as a rub when grilling or roasting. In order to better represent the new range of products they deliver these items are offered under the brand OMBU Sauces as part of Ceres Canadian Food Products Ltd.
Businesses give back to the community

SIS Exteriors have literally become super heroes with the launch of their Extreme Roof Makeover Giveaway contest. The competition asks people to nominate friends who live in Summerland and need a new roof but are unable to afford one. To nominate someone  submit a letter by November 6 saying why you feel that person deserves a new roof.

On October 3rd the Summerland IGA, helped out by the Summerland Steam Junior B hockey team, held a fundraising BBQ for the Summerland Food Bank and Community Resource Centre.

Last week Total Restoration Services Inc. - South Okanagan presented a cheque to the OSNS Child Development Centre  to cover the cost of the paint needed for their gymnasium.
Cidery celebrates Grand Opening as part of BC Cider Week

From 2 pm - 5.30 pm on October 17th the  Summerland Heritage Cider Company  will celebrate the official opening  of its tasting room with tastings of their own blends and those of other cideries.  Argentinian and East Indian food trucks will be on-site and tickets will be available at the gate.

Awards were presented to a number of Summerland wineries on October 1 in Kelowna, as part of the Okanagan Fall Wine Festival. This year judges from across North America awarded medals to over 50 wineries across BC at the 2015 British Columbia Wine Awards.

Among the awards were a gold medal for the 2013 Cabernet Merlot from the recently launched Evolve Cellars. Silver medals went to Dirty Laundry VineyardGiant Head Estate Winery and Silkscarf Winery

Dirty Laundry and Silkscarf also won 3 bronze medals each, along with Thornhaven Estates Winery. The awards didn't end there with two wines from Heaven's Gate Estate Winery winning medals and Sumac Ridge Estate Winery gaining one bronze.
Fruit developers raise profile on Pinterest

Okanagan Specialty Fruits has started a Pinterest board to share photos of, and recipes for, their ground-breaking Arctic® Apples. The launch aims to capitalize on the fact that the first commercial orchards growing Arctic® Golden and Arctic® Granny varieties were planted earlier this year. This brings the varietal closer to availability for consumers and keeps it in the public eye until it is widely available in a couple of years.
