February 2012

Greetings!

Thank you for your great response to our recent call for editorial interns. We heard from many talented writers, and as a result, we are thrilled to have brought many new interns on board. We will formally introduce them to you in the March newsletter. In the meantime, you'll start to see their contributions, representing a variety of STEM perspectives and experiences, throughout UnderTheMicroscope.com

Here's what you'll find in this issue:

  • Thinking about summer already?  So are we.  In fact, we've compiled a list of summer work/internship opportunities for college women in STEM.
  • Check out our new conferences and events listings. (See our Resources page.)
  • And don't forget, there is still time to register for next month's Inspiring Women Scientists Forum.  So make plans to attend this informative conference - for all or part of the day - and join other women from all walks of science studies and careers.

And as always, we'd love to hear from you - your stories, your questions, your ideas.

Let us know what's on your mind by commenting on UnderTheMicroscope.com, emailing us a at PR@underthemicroscope.com, or following us on Twitter and Facebook.

None of us are "just" anything. We're not "just" women. We're not "just" scientists. We're not "just" women scientists. We each have any number of roles in our lives to play and we all struggle to fulfill those roles to our greatest potential without seeing our other roles suffer in some way.

What is Under the Microscope?

UnderTheMicroscope.com, a website funded by the National Science Foundation and The Henry Luce Foundation and built by IBM, collects stories from women interested or involved in science, technology, engineering, and math. A selection of the stories submitted to the website will ultimately be published in a survival guide by the Feminist Press. We invite you to check out our story guidelines and read stories already submitted to the site. UnderTheMicroscope.com also publishes interviews, news, and tips for women in science.

For more information regarding the website, please contact Web Editor Tunisia Riley at editor@underthemicroscope.com.
