Issue 33
May 6, 2018
Dear LaGuardia Families,

Ahhh, spring finally made its arrival in New York City. After a quick walk in Central Park, we're willing to stop grumbling about how long it took to say goodbye to winter. Now that we're in the proper seasonal frame of mind (we'll ignore allergies) let's look forward to spring's rites of passage--our spring online auction, which goes live on Monday--as well as AP exams, Prom, June Regents and counting down the school days left until summer vacation!

So, yes, AP exams begin this week. You can find schedules for the exam dates and tutoring sessions in this week's La! Weekly Bulletin.

'Tis the season for Promposals! Parents of seniors: please note that the deadline for turning in the Senior Prom contract and the $225 fee is this Tuesday, May 8. Only cash, cashier's check or money order will be accepted. Prices go up to $235 after May 8, while tickets last. You can find more details about this and download the contract on page 23 of this week's   La! Weekly Bulletin.

There's a flury of events and activities for seniors during these last two months of school, so please make sure to regularly check the school website and read all the way through the La! Weekly Bulletin--lots of information will be forthcoming and you'll want to be on top of it. We'll also make sure to remind you of all important news!

Get ready for some great deals to do cool things around the city! Our annual online auction opens MONDAY, May 7th at 8:00 a.m.! It's very exciting. We have something for everyone, so please check it out and help support our amazing students and teachers. Click here to check out the site and place bids.

We will be adding more items during the week so CHECK BACK OFTEN. It will run until Sunday May 20th at 10:00 pm. We are still accepting last minute donations, so if you have anything, please email Heather MacAllister at lagdonate@gmail.com. Thanks to everyone for their support!

There are tons of great shows coming up in the next few weeks, including the opening of Senior Art Show #5: Encore this Friday, May 11 from 4:30-7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Make sure to check out our calendar of Upcoming Events, and secure your tickets to SDF #3:  A Little Night Music.

Last, but not least, the SLT Wellness Subcommittee is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop for LaGuardia parents with ThriveNYC on youth mental health first aid training, which will be held at school on May 19th.  Please read on for more details.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

NEW PROJECT for
Mr. Fransowie's
Earth Science
Classes

HURRAY! Another DonorsChoose project was funded last week! Ms. Laricchia's $1,600 project for a MacBook Pro for her Italian/Spanish classroom was completed! "WOW!!! I am so, so, so thankful that my project was funded," Ms. Laricchia wrote. "It was perfect timing as the computer I am using right now no longer charges. I am so proud to be a part of the LaGuardia family. It could not have been done without those who shared my project and to all those generous enough to donate. I am so grateful for all of you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"

In 2017-2018, we've funded more DonorsChoose projects than ever before!

NEW Project to Benefit Earth Science Classes
iPads for Mr. Fransowie's Classroom
Mr. Fransowie says, "With iPads I will be able to provide opportunities, multiple entry points and activities that can be completed by Earth Science students of all different skill levels and learning styles."
Please donate so Mr. Fransowie's students can use iPads this year and in upcoming semesters:  bit.ly/lagfransowie2

THANK YOU!

DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that allows private individuals to donate to public school classroom projects. LaGuardia teachers post many project requests on DonorsChoose throughout the school year for one simple reason: the NYC Department of Education does not provide many of the materials, technology and other essentials that make LaGuardia great.

In the past three years, 100% of our faculty's requests have been funded by parents and other generous supporters.

DonorsChoose donations are eligible for most employers' matching gift programs. bit.ly/dcmatch
