Issue 4
October 1, 2017
Dear LaGuardia Families:
We can all breathe a collective sigh of relief now that it's cooled off after that brutal snap of sweltering weather earlier this week.  So just maybe we can finally pack away the summer clothes and break out those new back-to-school outfits.
Our school calendar is rapidly filling with lots of events, so make sure to keep checking.  Parents of juniors, the college process starts for you, too, this week with the "Planning for College Meeting, Part I" on October 4. Junior families should also check the "College Corner" section below for new information.
It's also time for all of you to urge your children to literally get their acts together, because auditions for Rising Stars, the student talent show, are just around the corner (though the dates had been in flux, they're now officially set for October, 21, 22 & 23). Tune up the instruments and vocals chords, break out the dance shoes and think outside of the box. The theme for this year's show is "Reach." You can find out more details about the audition process and how to sign up for a slot here:
Thanks to all of you who have contributed to our All School Appeal. Our goal is for 100% participation from our community, and we're making steady progress so far! Your support helps pay for an array of important services that benefit all of our students---like science lab supplies, supplementary textbooks and professional development---just to name a few. You can make your donation here. Read on to see how far our donation thermometer has risen!

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Linda Hahn & Kat Ramirez
PA Co-Presidents

P.S. Don't forget---we've got a great opportunity to attend the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony by bidding on our mini-Charity Buzz Auction. But hurry! This auction closes on October 10.  Please read on!

DonorsChoose  is a nonprofit organization that allows private individuals to donate to public school classroom projects. LaGuardia teachers post many project requests on DonorsChoose throughout the school year for one simple reason: the NYC Department of Education does not provide many of the materials, technology and other essentials that make LaGuardia great.

In the past three years, 100% of our faculty's requests have been funded by parents and other generous supporters.

DonorsChoose donations are eligible for most employers' matching gift programs.

NOW is a Great Time to Give!

Thank you to everyone who has given generously to their Studio and to the All-School Appeal . We're at a 46% increase in donations from where we were last year. Great work so far! Let's keep up the momentum and reach our goal of $180,000 with 100% participation from our school's families!
  • The LaG HS Parents Association is a 501(c)(3) organization, so your donations are tax deductible.
  • Can't afford the suggested amounts? Pay in monthly installments! Or give as much as you're comfortable giving!
Give to the All School Appeal and Give to your Student's Studio.

She is a former financial services marketing executive with over ten years educating consumers on financial products and services for all stages of their financial life.
