Community Change Inc.

Dear CCI Friends,

We wanted to share this appeal from one of our colleagues at SURJ-Boston, one of the affiliate programs of CCI, about the work of Black & Pink in responding to Hurricane Harvey:

Over the last few weeks, I have had the pleasure to get to know Tray Johns, the new National Director of Black & Pink, a black-led lgbtq prison abolition organization. And, let me tell you, she is a fierce and caring person and organizer!!! Her energy is contagious and her dedication to movement work and prison abolition is unstoppable.

As many of you have heard (and many of you have already supported!), Tray and other folks from Black & Pink are driving to Houston, TX to help with clean up efforts in Houston and to find out more about some of the most vulnerable victims of the storm at the federal prison in Beaumont, TX. THIS IS ORGANZING WORK.

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR GOFUNDME! Also, sign the petition to improve living conditions at the federal prison facility in Beaumont, TX.

Prisoners have been facing unfathomable conditions and in a city where everyone was told to evacuate, "Prisoners were not evacuated from either the federal prison or three Texas prisons in the heavily flooded city of Beaumont, east of Houston, where high water was so destructive that it disabled the city's water supply system." Read more here from a recent interview on Democracy Now, as well as from other news sources here.

Let's help turn up for Black & Pink and show them how much collective power we have to support their work.
