Grandparents and relatives as parents
Kinship caregivers receive financial support

How many children in your program are being raised by grandparents or other relatives? Thanks to recent legislation in Kentucky, these caregivers will receive, under certain conditions, the same financial support as adults who are licensed as foster parents. This financial support also applies to close family friends who provide foster care for children removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect. Read more about this important update on financial assistance from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Other supports that are available specifically for grandparents include:
  • The Grandfamily Guide helps grandparents navigate the world of kinship care, which can have various unforeseen health, financial, nutritional, educational, behavioral, and legal issues.
  • Grandparents As Parents (GAP) Website offers the HELP Guide: A Handbook for Grandparents and Other Relative Caregivers
The Psychology Behind Challenging Behaviors
Workshop added!

If you ask the average early childhood professional to name the greatest barrier to classroom management, most would say: challenging behaviors!

We have heard your requests for more workshops addressing this important topic, and we are responding. "The Psychology Behind Challenging Behaviors" is a unique workshop that blends psychology and early childhood to help participants understand why children (and adults) behave the way they do.

This session takes a deep dive into classroom behavior, looks at how the brain develops and influences behavior, how children develop negative core beliefs and the resulting self-protecting behaviors that develop, and typical reasons why children misbehave.

Teachers will walk away with a better understanding of why children do what they do as well as insights into their own reactions. Participants will also learn concrete strategies to help children through challenging behaviors, which will help them feel better equipped to handle the children in their classrooms.

This workshop will be presented by Dr. Jenni Jacobs on April 10 from 6-9 p.m. at the 4C for Children Training Center, 525 W. Fifth St., Suite 102, Covington, KY 41011. Register today!

Sanitizing and disinfecting your early care environment is a large part of each day! Are you using the correct bleach solution recipe? The recipe is based on a concentrated bleach product of 8.25% sodium hypochlorite. There are new splash-less bleach products on the market that are only 3.98% and not intended for sanitizing or disinfecting. Please read bleach product labels carefully to determine the percent of sodium hypochlorite in the product. You can also find product information on the SDS sheets.
