Isthmus Brass Christmas Concert for Porchlight

Invitation to
Support Standing Rock
On Sunday, December 4, Rev. Jim Scorgie invited members and friends to consider sharing financial contributions in support of efforts to protect sacred land, water, and rights at Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Thank you to all those who contributed to the collection of $1,645. On Sunday afternoon news came that the Army Corps of Engineers has denied the permit for the construction of that section of the pipeline. Several had expressed interest in joining Rev. Tina Lang on a pilgrimage to North Dakota, but with Sunday afternoon
's news, that trip is on hold and may not be necessary. We
'll continue to watch and pray as the situation unfolds.

Many of us are seeking ways to publicly express support for our neighbors. Recently, some folks at a Mennonite church in Indiana created a welcome sign and several have popped up in the Madison area. Some of our members have asked if we could make these yard signs available. We have ordered a supply of signs which sell for $8 per sign. Please contact Rev. Tina Lang to reserve one. Signs should be available for pick up at church by December 11.

Three distinct, yet inter-connected avenues for our continued engagement in this work
emerged:
Education/formation, direct involvement and advocacy. An over-riding theme in all our conversations is that it is time to DO SOMETHING! The brief lifts up the major points in each area and suggests next steps and a proposed timeline.
