LEWES RESTORE SOFT OPENING A SUCCESS
Shoppers and Volunteers

After much anticipation by staff, volunteers, and patrons the Lewes ReStore doors were opened Saturday, January 28th.

Between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm more than 750 people stopped in to check out the new location. Shoppers lined up 45 minutes in advance of the 8:00 am opening. To help with the flow of traffic, AmeriCorps members managed parking.

Merchandise flew off the showroom floor, as shoppers took advantage of the deals. Volunteers helped restock merchandise from 3 large shipping containers on the property.

The official Grand-Opening of the new Lewes location will take place March 4th.

HABITAT ON THE HILL 2017

Representing Delaware Habitats were Executive Directors, Kevin Gilmore of Sussex County and Kevin Smith of New Castle County. During the conference they met with Senator Carper, Senator Coons, and Representative Blunt-Rochester of Delaware.

This year Habitat on the Hill focused on ensuring that tax reform does not undermine access to adequate, affordable housing, and prioritizing funding for housing and community development.

UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE STUDENTS VOLUNTEER
University of Delaware Students
The students from the University of Delaware Community Engagement Team volunteered on a Sussex County Habitat for Humanity build site in Ellendale.

The UDCET is an inter-Faith organization, whose members work alongside one another helping to enrich communities in Delaware and across the world.

UDCET members will again serve with SCHFH during the last week of March as part of the Alternative Break program. The program encourages UDCET students and other UD students to spend their spring break volunteering. We look forward to hosting these students.

FIRST WOMEN BUILD EVENT OF 2017 RECAP
Women Build group
Women Build events are designed to empower women while offering opportunities for growth. With that in mind, 12 Women Build volunteers came together on February 4th in Ellendale.

The day started with a how-to-clinic led by construction regular Terry High, Site-Supervisor Shannon Bull and AmeriCorps members Brittni Sullivan and Matt Gabel. Participants learned how to install vinyl plank flooring and siding. The afternoon was spent putting their newly acquired skills to use at one of the Habitat home sites in Ingram Village.
