  President's Message
Eliseo Vilalta-Perdomo
This year is flying in front of us. Our members have been involved in many activities related to the development of the Sustainability discipline inside our profession. Some of these are presented in this newsletter, but there are many more from which we are not aware, so please let us know what are you doing to foment this exciting topic.
Preparations for the next Annual Conference in Anaheim are at full swing. Both, the Applied Solutions and the ISERC tracks together show a well-extended interest, with more than 50 participants in total. Read more from the president

Give Kids the World (Industrial Engineer,
Volume 47, Issue 11, 2015)

Central  Florida professional and student chapters of IIE volunteered to decorate the Give Kids the World Village for Christmas. Along with this annual tradition, the volunteers provide industrial engineering support for the village, which treats children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to fantasy vacations. IIE's Central Florida chapter has spent the last two years helping give kids the world - literally.

Give Kids the World Village enables children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to take weeklong, cost-free fantasy vacations. The village, a 70-acre, nonprofit resort near central Florida's main attractions, offers accommodations in whimsical villas, transportation, donated attraction tickets, meals and more. Since 1986, Give Kids the World has welcomed more than 135,000 families from all 50 U.S. states and 75 countries.

Expanding our division
In addition to IIE, are you involved in either Engineers Without Borders or the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education? We would like to reach out to these organizations and see how industrial engineers can become part of the process. If so please contact  John Corliss.

Perhaps you or someone you know is qualified to take a leadership position on the  Sustainable Development Division Board.  The Division is on an increasing growth path, and we are looking for motivated, enthusiastic volunteers to continue the progress.  On December 30, the Nomination Committee will begin the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming election.  Participating in a leadership role for the division is a challenging and rewarding experience. Please take a moment to consider submitting your name or that of a colleague and be on the lookout for the "Call for Nominations" that will be emailed to members on December 30.
