Attention Mason Students! If you have been involved in environmental leadership at Mason or in your community, or have a keen interest in making Mason more sustainable, consider applying to be a Patriot Green Fund Committee member. Student Committee members help make funding decisions on what projects have the most merit, so they have a real impact on shaping Mason's sustainability culture. We have two spaces opening up in the Fall semester - apply now!
Washington Youth Summit
George Mason University welcomed 172 high school delegates to campus last week for the 2014 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment.  Since 2010, this summit has brought junior and senior high school students into contact with faculty and professionals in environmental fields to encourage their growth.  These high school students have the chance to explore career options, connect with environmental leaders and experience life as a Mason student.  Check out the newsdesk article for more information.
Green Office Certification
Congratulations to the Prince William Registrar's office for earning SILVER level certification in the Green Office program, and to the Cashier's office for earning GOLD!  These offices have been hard at work reducing their environmental footprint.  If you are interested in learning more about how your office can be Green Office certified, please contact Giulia Manno.
Sustainability Spotlight

The Office of Sustainability would like to congratulate Jason Force for being named the July Sustainability Spotlight! Jason is the Chief Design Engineer working on developing the EcoMow; a self-fueled mower and grass pellet harvester.   The Eco-Mow uses the grassy biomass that it harvests as fuel.  The additional biomass is processed in pellet form, which can be used for other applications such as power generation. This project is being funded through the Patriot Green Fund, along with additional investors

Jason would like to showcase that biofuels can be utilized more cost effectively than fossil fuels. Upon completion of the project, he would like to mow the turf grass at Mason, and produce biofuel for the University to use. In the long-term, Jason aims to provide off grid power to rural communities who currently have none, and run a triple bottom line business with strong emphasis on environmental and social responsibility.

Congratulations Jason, and thank you for your hard work and dedication to helping improve sustainability at Mason!
