SPEEDROME BEATS ODDS AGAINST MOTHER NATURE ON HOOSIER LOTTERY FAN NIGHT
$5 fan appreciation and Hoosier Lottery night was a wild, wild affair Saturday April 14th at the Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome powered by Lincoln Tech. The event escaped Mother Nature’s wrath by running an all feature format for the 5 classes. And fortunately, the interesting evening was completed just before consistent rain moved in.

The 10th Annual Brian Luttrell Memorial 62-lap Stock Figure 8 presented by Hart’s Auto was a war of attrition. So much so, that it had one of the largest margins of victory in track history and had a first time Figure 8 winner to boot. Veteran Shiner Sutton survived all obstacles to enter a happy winners circle by 7-laps over second place Vic Boicourt. He dedicated the win to his recently passed father. Kyle Downey was third in his first division start. Notable moments included Larry Hahn and Andy Sherley each losing the lead with mechanical issues. But the biggest came when leader Mike Burgess connected with Kenny Rackley in a hefty crossover crash.

The Brown’s Oil Service Late Model 50-lap Figure 8 had one of those instances that left fans breathless. Lap 35 had a thundering crash when Jordan Hahn t-boned race leader Nick Moore in the intersection. Reigning division champion Ben Tunny would go on to his first victory of the year over his brothers Austin and Jesse. The 25 lap Late Model oval main saw rising series star Steve “Bull” Durham drive his machine to the triumph. Ben was the runner-up followed by Hahn.

The Lawrence Towing Factory Front Wheel Drive feature had an early Talladega-style big one that took out several including last week’s top two finishers, Scott Stewart Jr and Joseph Liggett. Veteran Jess Holliday would shake off all challengers in the 25-lapper to hoist checkers. Rookie Ricky Johnson and sophomore Marc Bisson completed the results podium.

The Superior Finish Lawn & Landscape INEX Legend clash had a bumpy beginning as well with John Cosby and Tony Paquette tangling in turn three. Rising to the challenge of the 30-lap main was Alan Edsall who took his first Speedrome win. Kenny Smith was second and James Edsall third. The Adult Faskart division began their year Saturday. 2017’s title rivals would resume their battle. Defending champion Cody Kennedy was victorious over Drake Stancil with Bill Derrick third.
