We're Up a
Lazy River

Hoagy Carmichael would approve.

This Memorial Day weekend, as (after 53 years) has become our custom, the focus of thousands of spectators and participants will be the normally peaceful waters of the Susquehanna River.

Our lazy river will be anything but, as hundreds of paddlers push their canoes from Cooperstown to Bainbridge in the annual running of the General Clinton Regatta.

Of course there'll be plenty of entertainment at the finish line (and beyond) with carnival rides, food and music.

Not to be outdone, the village of Cooperstown is staging their Hall of Fame Classic Weekend, with a big parade and a baseball fan's dream of a ballgame.

Speaking of ballgames, the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Game will be taking place in Oneonta on Saturday, with another scheduled for Sunday in Cooperstown.  On this Memorial Day weekend, it would be hard to imagine a better cause for attendance.

The flags will also fly at several parades in the area, so you'll want to find yourself on the sidelines for one of those.

There's another running of the blues train, there's Indian Bhangra and New Orleans Brass funk at West Kortright, and music, music, music seemingly everywhere.

(There's even a Ukulele Fest!)

There's a Garden Party in Sharon Springs, an Iroquois Festival at Fenimore House in Cooperstown, various art gallery openings, assorted barbecues for a cause, and lots more!

What a great weekend it's going to be.

The river may be lazy... but not us!

Have a terrific time, and a safe Memorial Day weekend.

See you next Thursday.

Gentle Yoga with Kelly Morrissey
Gentle Yoga is a class structured around rejuvenating and healing the body. Yoga props such as blankets, blocks, bolsters and straps are often used for safe practice, and to allow the body to fully achieve each position comfortably. This class is held at a slower pace and focuses on stretching all areas of the body, while releasing stress and tension from joints and muscles. Floor work will be optional. Those with medical conditions, please check with your physician if you have any concerns about attending yoga.
