Yeeeee Ha!
We got ourselves a rodeo!

That's right...
This Saturday at Oneonta's Damaschke Field it's a RODEO, and a fundraiser to benefit our Oneonta Outlaws baseball team.

Of course, for those who've been long anticipating it, this week starts an onslought of ghoulish fun with many pre-Halloween festivities scheduled throughout the area.

There's the last of the outdoor farmers' markets, and the usual variety of musical entertainments.

And an outlet for your inner cowboy.

Yippee-i o-kie aaaaay!

We'll see you next Thursday.

Mowtown Dance Party and Costume Contest

Astute musicology, iconic rock photography, artisanal poetics, postal modern audiophilately - The Orphic Gallery has seen a flurry of cultural endeavors this autumn.  All too serious, you may opine.  No fun, you may say.  Well now it's your turn to dance then.  The gallery is pleased to announce what may be the final grown up event ... of the 2014 season - a Motown Dance Party set for Saturday, October 25th from 7 to 11 pm. The music that evening will celebrate the extraordinary musical traditions of Detroit Motor City as selected by DJ Grandmagister P with an emphasis on the soul sounds made famous by the Motown label from the Four Tops and the Supremes and the Jackson 5 to Rick James.  Later in the evening the incredible history of Detroit Rock & Roll will be featured from the MC5 and Iggy Pop, Bob Seger and Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels  to Kid Rock and The White Stripes. Being the weekend on the eve of Halloween all guests are encouraged to where costumes and for further inspiration there will be prizes from the Eight Track Museum and Orphic Gallery for the most original, frightening and outrageous costumes.  So dust off your costume from last year or years past, or try out your costume for this year, but polish up those dancing shoes and make for the dance floor to celebrate the great music of Motor City!  Remember - it doesn't matter what you wear, just as long as you are there!

Harpeth Rising
Since their formation in 2009, Harpeth Rising has been building a reputation by breaking down musical boundaries with violin, banjo, cello, foot percussion, and powerful, three-part vocals. The classically trained group released their fourth album, 'Tales From Jackson Bridge,' in October of 2013, which reached No. 6 on the Folk DJ Charts the same month and No. 15 on the EuroAmericana Charts the following March. While the album remains true to Harpeth Rising's folk, bluegrass, and classical roots throughout, it expands on their blues, Latin, and rock influences and adds in some new flavors such as Texas Swing and Gypsy Jazz. The album has been named on the Americana Radio Top Five Most Added List, the Roots Music Report's Top Forty, Alternate Root's Top Ten Songs of the Week, and Amazon's Top Twenty Hot New Releases in Roots Rock. Their concert will be a fundraiser for Oxford Schools Music and Arts Boosters.

We're inviting community members to put together teams and try to outrun the Zombies! Each team will receive 10 flags and must attempt to dodge the flag-grabbing zombies along the course. The team finishing with the most flags intact will win 5 gift certificates to Signatures Restaurant on the SUNY Delhi campus. Cost: $35 per team. Race-day registration is also available for $40/team.  SUNY Delhi student teams may enter free-of-charge. The first 100 registrants receive a race t-shirt. Registration forms will be available at the race and at local locations (details forthcoming).
