It's a Fabulous Way to Welcome Fall

Autumn is in the air, if not quite officially at our doorstep.  The air is crisp and the early evenings are still sunlit. Everyone wants to be outside to enjoy it.  So, how great is that we have another Fabulous Friday in Downtown Oneonta?

There will be a classic car "Cruise In" on Main Street, and vintage rock'n'roll from Off the Record in the plaza (and Doug Decker in Theresa's Emporium.)

Pinecone Fletcher is on the Blues Train - a terrific way to enjoy the pending turn of foliage.
And of course, there's music, art and performance all over our Sweet Home.

Go out and enjoy it!
and...
We'll see you next Thursday.

Pinecone Fletcher
From underground street performers, to blogs, to Hollywood soundtracks, there's no denying the rapid growing subculture of the cigar box guitar movement. Now, one of the nation's largest independent guitar retailers, House of Guitars, has taken notice of one cigar box guitar company in particular, Hobo King. A leading force in the cigar box movement and world wide retailer, Hobo King is as committed to keeping tradition alive as they are breaking current ideologies of what guitars and music are truly about. The Hobo King "Standard" cigar box guitar is so simple and traditional in its build, it often leads the unacquainted to ask "Is it playable?" Artists, including multi-platinum Grammy award winning producer and guitarist Pete Anderson, as well as Pinecone Fletcher, CEO of Hobo King, and one of the most respected cigar box players in the world, can answer unequivocally, "Yes!"

FOVL Sunday Afternoon Series: A Conversation with Kelley Rourke
Kelley Rourke is resident dramaturg for The Glimmerglass Festival and the Washington National Opera. She has written libretti for three youth operas at The Glimmerglass Festival: Odyssey and Robin Hood (both with Ben Moore) and Wilde Tales (with Laura Karpman), shown in above photo). Rourke's modern English adaptations of numerous standard and not-so-standard operas have been hailed as "crackingly witty" (The Independent, London) and "remarkably well wedded to the music and versification in arias" (New York Times).

Peeling the Onion: An introduction to Shadow through Authentic Movement and Contact Improv. A 6-week series of adult modern dance classes. Together we will peel back our onion layers of stress, judgement and inhibition. We'll sink into our core and root down into the earth. Through Authentic Movement, we will explore our inner landscape and our vulnerability, while being held in a safe compassionate container. Through Contact Improv, we will expand into our senses and outwards to the floor, the walls and each other. As we build trust, we will find freedom and lightness through play. This series is appropriate for those who desire to reconnect with their body and their breath. No dance experience required. A willingness to explore recommended!
