River Landing is working with Allie DiBlasi to offer adult and children swim lessons to our Members & Residents.

Allie is certified by the American Red Cross as a Water Safety Instructor and has been trained as a Lifeguard Instructor Trainer. She has also been instructing in New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick counties for 16 years. She loves teaching and emphasizes the importance of "safety first" in and around the water!

Class Information

Water Babies

Ages: 6 months - 2.75+ years
Fee: $55 per student
Parent/Adult + Child in the water for each class
Swim diaper required

Skills:

Teaching various holding positions as we learn prone and supine positions for floating
Learning the initial stage of submersion, kicking, gliding
Safe and fun ways to enter the water
Songs, toys, and great socialization
Life-jacket safety as we learn what to do in the event of an aquatic emergency

Preschool

Ages: 3 - 5 years (generally)
Students placed by skills set, not age
Parent requests digital skills assessment from (class level suggested)
Fee: $70 per student
Parent/Adult + Child in the water for each class

Skills:

Submerging joyfully and willing with games
Jumping and submerging
Learning to float prone/supine assisted
Learning to blow mouth bubbles then nose bubbles
Flutter kicking prone/supine using kick boards
Arm motions for underwater swimming and freestyle
Experiencing treading water while assisted
Water safety story at the beginning of each class

Level 1

Students placed by skill set, not age
General age 4-6 years
Parent requests digital skills assessment from instructor (class level suggested)
Fee: $70 per student

Introduction to aquatic skills
Floating prone & supine
Rhythmic breath control
Kick board skills with face submerged
Underwater swimming
Swim + Float + Swim
Freestyle and Backstroke
Prone & supine glides with flutter kicking
Jump, submerge and recover to swim
Treading water in deep
No flotation devices used in classes
Water safety story at the beginning of each class

Level 3

Students are placed by skill set, not age
General age: 6-8 years
Fee: $70 per student

Skills:

Distance swimming (25 yd)
Glides off wall + swim distance
Underwater swimming with rhythmic breathing
Rotary breathing for freestyule
Backstroke
Elementary backstroke
Deep water treading
Self rescue skills in deep water
Dolphin kicking
Skills to rescue others

Level 4/5

Students are placed by skill set, not age
General age 8+ years
Fee: $70 per student

Skills:

Distance swimming
Open turns
Flip turns
Freestyle with rotary breathing 50 yards with turns
Backstroke 50 yards with turns
Elementary backstroke 50 yards with turns
Breast stroke
Slide stroke
Butterfly
Dolphin kicking for butterfly
Deep water treading for extended time
Deep water emergency skills

First time lessons?

1. Email the above information to Allie at [email protected]

2. Which class level is for you? Kids are placed by skill, not age.

a. Request skills assessment (yes/no) via email. Please do not guess.

b. Instructor will reply with suggested class level.

3. Instructor will send parent the following: confirmation email with billing + swim waiver/ guest waiver

4. Swim waiver + fee must be mailed to instructor within five (5) days of receiving the confirmation email.

5. Waiver and fee secures your spot or released to wait-listed children.
