New Student Send-Offs
Attend a send-off near you!

The Syracuse University Alumni Association is pleased to offer the New Student Send-Off series. Hosted by SU’s regional alumni clubs, members of the Board of Trustees, individual alumni, and/or SU parents, these gatherings are a perfect way for new incoming students to kick-off their time as a Syracuse University student.

Send-offs allow attendees and their parents to meet current students and other new SU families. Registrants can have their questions answered by current students and alumni—all while showing off their Orange spirit! All new students receive a special Syracuse gift.

This year, there are 46 send-offs planned in 43 locations around the country and the world, including Dubai, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, and Taiwan.

Be sure to visit http://cc.syr.edu/sendoffs for a complete listing of send-off dates and locations, and to register for one near you.

Immunization Records Due July 1
Submit via the

  • Two measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccinations
  • Meningococcal meningitis vaccination within the last five years and after the age of 16
If you have your student’s records, you can send them to your student and encourage them to submit their records using the Health Services Patient Portal at https://suhsportal.syr.edu/ .  To log in, students use their SU Net ID and password.

Important Conversations
Talking to Your Student About Personal Safety

While Syracuse University has one of the lowest crimes rates in the city, and continues to experience less crime, it is important to talk to your student about personal safety. Here are some safety strategies to share:
  • Never walk alone. Walking in groups of three or more is safest--especially after dark.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings. Don't wear headphones or earbuds.
  • Never leave belongings unattended, even for just a minute.
  • Always lock all doors and windows
  • If you bring a bike to campus, secure it with a U-Bolt lock
  • Download the LiveSafe app, which acts as a “mobile blue light,” allowing users to connect with the Emergency Communications Center at the touch of a button.
  • Plan ahead and use the University's many different transportation options.
For more information, visit the Department of Public Safety's website at http://dps.syr.edu.
Parent Information on MySlice
Please remind your student to keep information updated
  • Enter Emergency Contact information. In case of an emergency the University will contact whomever is listed.

  • Enter parent/guardian contact information. This is how you receive important communications--such as this e-newsletter. Students may enter separate information for each parent/guardian.

  • Using Share My Access, students can set up an account for you so that you can view class schedules, bursar bills, end-of-semester grades, financial aid, etc. For their security, we discourage students from sharing their own MySlice password.
