Family Weekend 2017 | October 13-15
Visiting campus on Family Weekend allows you to see your student, meet their friends, and engage with other Syracuse University families, administrators, faculty, and staff. In addition, you can get a flavor of the local community.

Syracuse University values the role of parents and families in their students' development. Discussions and bonds that develop at Family Weekend ultimately allow us to better serve all students. Please note that, even if you are unable to make it to campus for Family Weekend, your student is welcome to participate in all programs and events.

What Can Group Do For You?

Group therapy provides a unique and effective way to address the developmental challenges faced by college students. Group therapy is a setting where students can learn about forming connections, practice communication, and experience healthy relationship patterns. The mutual support and exploration in group allow students to learn about others and themselves. In fact, research has shown group to be one of the most effective forms of counseling for college students in distress. The Syracuse University Counseling Center offers a wide range of groups to accommodate the diversity of our students and their needs.

To join a group, students must first contact the Counseling Center at 315.443.4715. An orientation session will then be completed prior to starting group. For more information on the different group therapy options, visit the Counseling Center’s Group Therapy website or contact the group Coordinator Carrie Brown at .

Flu Clinic Set for October 11

Flu season in the United States can begin as early as October. It typically peaks in January or February. The single best way to prevent getting the flu is to get the vaccine. It won’t protect you against every strain of flu, but it is formulated to protect against the most common strains that are going around. Due to a higher incidence of the flu last year, Health Services will be using the Quadrivalent flu vaccine, versus the Trivalent that has been used in the past.
Here on campus, our students can begin their flu protection early by getting vaccinated at the free flu clinic on October 11 from 11a.m. to
3 p.m. at Flanagan Gym.  Students may also receive a flu shot at the Health Services Pharmacy on a walk-in basis. More Flu Clinic opportunities will be posted on the Health Services website in the coming weeks.

“Everyone on campus should get vaccinated for flu”, Michele Frontale, supervising pharmacist says. “It promotes a healthy campus. The more students, staff and faculty are vaccinated, the more it keeps our teachers teaching and our students going to class.”
Student Health Insurance Requirements and Waiver Process
Deadline September 18, 2017

All full-time, matriculated undergraduate, graduate and law students are required to demonstrate proof of qualifying health insurance coverage. To provide eligible students with access to a comprehensive, qualifying health insurance plan, Syracuse University is offering a student health insurance plan insured and administered by Aetna Student Health for a cost of $1,672. The plan will cover students from August 1, 2017 through July 31, 2018.

If your student has existing qualifying coverage, you can complete a waiver form to demonstrate proof of coverage, and if approved, you will not be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. Students who do not demonstrate proof of qualifying coverage by the deadline, will automatically be enrolled in and billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan.

The deadline to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Program is September 18, 2017.
Immunization Records Deadline Has Passed

The deadline for submission of immunization records for ALL new students has passed.  If your student has not submitted their immunization records to Health Services, this must be done as soon as possible in order to be compliant with New York state mandates. Please have your student log on to the Patient Portal  to upload the immunization records. Parents can fax immunization records to: 315-443-9010.
