  Elixirgen Scientific launches new stem cell products to the market
Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund portfolio company, Elixirgen Scientific, has begun selling a variety of human stem cell-based products, which allows researchers to accurately model human disease in vitro to further research and cures. Elixirgen Scientific, launched in 2016, is a Baltimore-based biotechnology company focused on stem cell related technology. The company's mission is to make stem cell innovation available to everyone.

TEDCO Announces Executive Promotions, Strategic Evolution
TEDCO , Maryland’s economic engine for technology companies, announced a strategic evolution of program offerings and leadership promotions. They come as the organization continues to refine and build its initiatives with new programs and innovative strategies to support and grow Maryland’s entrepreneur ecosystem.
 
The changes support the expansion and progression of the organization’s resources, funding and services to build and grow high-growth companies.

Frank Glover to Lead TEDCO’s Seed Investment Funds as Lead Director
Frank Glover has joined the TEDCO team as the Lead Director of the Seed Investment Funds and as an Associate of the Maryland Venture Fund. Frank brings the unique combination of experience with venture investing and successful operating experience.

Maryland Technology Development Corp. is restructuring and adding new services for state startups as it ramps up its "TEDCO 2.0" plans.

Stem cells could boost this Maryland baby's heart and chance for a normal life
“Kaushal has been working with Dr. Joshua Hare, the former Johns Hopkins researcher who became the founding director of the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Hare formed Longeveron to translate research into medical use. Longeveron, the University of Maryland and the state-established Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund are sponsoring the initial $1.5 million cost of the study.”

TEDCO announced investments from its seed fund in five startups this week, including three from Baltimore.

Startup aims for FDA clearance on medical device to improve communication in surgery
TEDCO portfolio company ClearMask, a Baltimore startup, is working toward gaining clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its device that could improve in-surgery communication.

TEDCO money helps Md. startups finish fundraising rounds
The Maryland Technology Development Corporation’s (TEDCO) Seed Fund invested $1.2 million in five state startups’ funding rounds, the fund announced Tuesday. The companies cover fields ranging from biotechnology to health information technology to artificial intelligence.


SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative
The SBA invites interest in the SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative – an effort to provide free
entrepreneurship education and training for executives of small, poised-for-growth companies that are potential job creators. This intensive executive entrepreneurship series includes nearly 100 hours of classroom time. It also provides opportunities for small business owners to work with experienced coaches and mentors, attend workshops, and develop connections with their peers, local leaders, and the financial community. Multiple awards may be made. Eligibility is restricted to U.S. small business leaders (see provided link for locations and requirements). Application due dates are to be determined.
