Projects Coordinator TEF Ooutreach to Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Sugar beach A Viceroy Resort The CBAY Resort & Sugarbeach Human Resource Office met with Mr. Wendel George this week to discuss matters related to the Tourism Enhancement Fund. Each Resort received 300 TEF brochures for placement in their guest rooms. TEF meets with Republic of China (Taiwan) Building on last year’s successful partnership with the Republic of China (Taiwan) to donate 3 greenhouses to CARE, Rural Women’s Network Babonneau Cluster and the Eastern Farmers’ Cooperative, the TEF facilitated a dialogue between a few Executive Chefs and representatives of the Embassy to discuss the Chefs’ experiences with consistency in supply and diversification of local agricultural produce. A key outcome of the discussions was the establishment of an instrument to inform the Tourism industry about upcoming agricultural forecast. As the discussions progress, SLHTA members will be invited to participate. Chefs in Schools prepare for Junior Dueling Challenge, Barbados On the heels of a stunning victory last month, the Soufriere Secondary School Champions are currently in training with Anse Chastanet Resort in preparation for the final leg of the Chefs in Schools journey. The TEF hosted Chef Edey and his colleagues to dinner last week to discuss St. Lucia’s preparation for the competition. This year the competition expects to enhance its training component by featuring Chef Orlando Satchell who is set to accompany the team to Barbados. Karina Abraham and Cheyenne Hippolyte were declared the winning team in a keenly contested challenge that took place Friday (June 15) at the Ciceron Secondary School, the defending champions. The victorious Soufriere team was coached by Chef Frank Faucher of Anse Chastenet Resort. TEF/Rotary Discuss key area for collaboration TEF Project Consultant Mr. Noorani Azeez sat down with Rotary Club member Mr. Konrad Wagner this week to discuss a collaboration which could be big news for physically disabled persons in Saint Lucia. The project proposal is currently before the TEF Board of Trustees this week and will be formally announced as soon as the details are finalized. Other partners will include the Ministry of Health, Community Stakeholders and physically disabled persons. Look out for more information on this in next week’s newsletter. What is the Tourism Enhancement Fund? The Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), is a private sector initiative established on 1 st  October 2013, designed to allow the Tourism industry a greater opportunity to play an integral role in the sustainable development of our destination. The TEF is financed by a small, voluntary donation from our guests of $2 USD per night and goes towards community development and environmental projects and actions which will affect the livelihoods of our current and future generations. By collecting a small voluntary fee from our visitors, the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association will also be able to support projects specific to ensuring that our island is clean and safe for visitors and residents alike, including the beautification of specific areas of our island....
