Message from Dr. Fractor and Mrs. Velikorodnyy:

"Your life has purpose. Your story is important.
Your dreams matter.
You were born to make an impact."

We ran across this quote this past year and it truly resonated  with us. Mrs. Velikorodnyy and I, both parents of our own school-age children, know the anticipation and the excitement that comes with the start of a new school year. We too share in these emotions. As we come onboard the helm at Bridgeport, we look forward to continuing the great strides made here over the past 12 years with Mrs. Bender as the leader. We are excited to continue to move the school forward. Our message to our families at Bridgeport is that we want for ALL students to know that we are here to help them develop their story, discover their dreams and passion, and provide them the skills and knowledge they need to make an impact on their family, friends, community, and the global world in which we live.  This will be done through access to the highest caliber of instructional delivery, the best access to arts in education, and an elementary experience that they look back upon fondly for years to come.

Whether you are returning or this is your first year at Bridgeport Elementary School, we are excited to connect with you and your child(ren) so that we can support the needs and goals of ALL of our learners.  As your administrative team, we would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about our own educational philosophy. Both Mrs. Velikorodnyy and myself believe strongly in research-based instructional practices and we defer to research to guide our decision-making. We pledge to support our parents, our teachers, our support staff, and each student that attends school here at Bridgeport as we collectively embark on a learning adventure.

We are confident that Bridgeport Elementary School will challenge your student academically and will help him or her to develop socially.  Our instructional focus as a staff this year will be on delving into the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), furthering our work on the development and implementation of literacy and mathematics strategies across the curriculum, and using formative assessments to guide instruction and learning.  We will also continue implementation of our "Be Your B.E.S.T." behavior expectations.  With the guidance from a supportive school board, we are committed to  continually learning and reflecting to ensure that all Bridgeport students understand that their life has purpose, their story is important, their dreams matter, and that they were born to make an impact.

School Supplies

So many families registering their children for school have asked about school supplies. If your family is able to donate supplies, it is much appreciated.

At the Back to School events, your child's teacher will request donations of specific supplies for different projects completed in the classroom.  Teachers will share how they will want their students to organize materials with folders, etc. Hence, please wait until after the Back to School events before purchasing any folders, notebooks, etc. We thank you for any donations that are received!

Parent Portal
Access Portal HERE

We are happy to announce that SUSD is continuing to  "go green"  with how our parents update emergency information and other forms.

Please note, if you have not completed enrollment, it is imperative that all necessary information be turned into our office prior to the start of school. Without completed enrollment, parents will not have access to the Parent Portal.

ALL Parents  must  go into the new Campus Portal and update information in order to access teacher assignment(s) on August 7th

All parents have received a letter with the necessary activation codes to access your child's information in the portal.

Returning students received the codes in June with their report card.

If you registered for Bridgeport in the last 2 weeks, you will be sent your Campus Portal letter and codes on Monday, July 31st. If you have NOT received a code by Tuesday, August 1st, please contact our office at (661) 294-5375.

The window to register and/or update information for your child(ren) with Saugus Union School District's Campus Portal ends
August 6th

You will not be able to access teacher assignment information until you have  registered and updated your child's information in the Portal.

Please remember that this is a critical step in providing the school with important information such as medical information and emergency contacts.

Dress for Learning

As you begin back to school clothes shopping, we want you to please keep in mind Saugus Union School District's Dress Code Policy, Dress for Learning. Listed below are the key items to consider as you shop for clothes and as your child(ren) dress for school:
  • Shoes must be "closed toed". Sandals are not allowed for safety reasons. Shoes with an "open back" or "open toe" are not to be worn at school.
  • Shorts and skirts are to be fingertip length
  • Straps on tops and dresses are to be at least two fingers in width (no spaghetti straps).
  • Make-up may not be worn at school, unless on special dress up days or by permission from the classroom teacher for special projects/performances.
  • Jewelry should be kept at a minimum; post earrings only.
  • Students may wear hats (brims forward) and sunglasses for sun protection.

We hope that this information answered some of your Back-to-School questions. As the summer comes to an end and the school year approaches, it is a good time to re-establish routines such as bedtimes, daily reading, math facts practice, and setting alarm clocks!

We will continue our main means of communication via email "blasts" to all of you throughout the course of the school year. Please continue to look for more email blasts coming in the next two weeks. If a friend or neighbor happens to say, "I didn't get that blast!", please have them call our school office so that we can add them to our email list.  Our office is also open between the hours of 8:00am - 4:00pm, Monday through Thursday during the summer.

All of us at Bridgeport look forward to a  great new ADVENTURE  and we look forward to another great year of learning, discovering, and making an impact!

Sincerely,

Dr. Carin Fractor, Principal
Mrs. Velikorodnyy, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Lori Oster,  Office Manager Extraordinaire
