The GTA AM TOUR Returns To Meadowbrook

Golf Club for The Mill Street open

Gormley ON (June 22, 2015) - The GTA AM Tour was back, this past Monday, for the Mill Street Open, as the Tour made a return to Meadowbrook Golf Club, for the first time since 2012. Meadowbrook Golf Club, a private club set on a 153 acre property, gently meanders through established stands of trees that would excite any players' senses. The extremely well-conditioned bentgrass greens are guarded by tactically placed bunkers, a series of flowing brooks and dangerously positioned water hazards. Players had to be careful not to be lulled into a false sense of security.... Choosing the safe and attentive play would pay off at Meadowbrook. As we creep ever closer to the midway point of the season, players are  beginning to really amp up their games. In the B and C flights, this heightened level of play would be most evident as the winning scores would be LOW!!!

In the Championship Flight, Tom Fraser (Scarborough, ON), would capture his second win, and third, top three finish, in his three events played this season. Tom would have yet another great day, scoring four birdies, ten pars, three bogies and a double bogie for a one over par round of 72 that would be good by two over his nearest competitor. Alone, in second, for a second week in a row, Sean Kaye (Georgetown, ON) played another solid and low round this week, carding a score of 74. To determine third place, card matching was required, as two players finished with matching 77's. After matching the inward nine scores, Paulo Simoes (Woodbridge, ON), playing in his first Tour event, would take third place, while Robert Sterling (Mississauga, ON), finished fourth. In the Championship Flight's season-long Myrtle Beach Order of Merit, Michael Alderman continues to hold down top spot with 567.5 points. In second is John Harrington with 390 points and, in third, is Stephen Wright with 275 points.

In the A-Flight, another Tour Rookie would be crowned a winner this season as Rob Auld (Brampton, ON), would make his second event a triumphant one. Rob would have a great day, carding 4 birdies, on his way to a round of 79 that would stand alone, atop a tightly packed leaderboard. To determine second and third places, card matching was required, as two players finished at 80. When matching the inward nine scores, John Farrugia (Brampton, ON), took second while Danny MacDonald (Turkey Point, ON), took third. The A Flight's Myrtle Beach Order of Merit sees Mike Hubbs remain in top spot, with 470.7 points. In second, Darryl Scott has 353.8 points and, in third spot, Danny MacDonald has 345.0 points.

In the B-Flight, Chris Lucas (Courtice,ON), would have one of those days to remember. Chris came to play!!! His best finishes on the season, thus far, has only been a twenty-fourth and a fourteenth place finish but, on Monday, Chris would "find his inner pro" and would fire a round of 80 for a three shot victory. To determine second and third places, card matching was required, as two players finished tied at 83. When matching their back nines, Jeff Anthofer (Toronto, ON), took second place while Derek Peters (Toronto, ON), walked away with third, and best of all, twenty-four Mill Street Beer and some TaylorMade Project a golf balls for his efforts. In the B-Flight's Myrtle Beach Order of Merit, Derek Peters jumps into top spot, with 398.8points, over last week's winner Bob Chapman, who has 336.0. Chris Mulchinock slips into third with a total of 256.3 points.

In the C-Flight, Duane Gomes (Toronto, ON), would hold nothing back, staying out of trouble to shoot his best round since July 2013, firing an amazing round of 80 that would best the field by two. Alone, in second, Mark Matusiak (Toronto, ON), made his way back into a top three finish, shooting an amazing round with a score of 82. Taking third was Robert Perri (Toronto, ON), who would finish with a round of 86. The C-Flight's Myrtle Beach Order of Merit has Jay White leading with 522.5 points. In second place is Robert Perri, with 435 points and, in third, Mark Matusiak has 403.8 points.

Another one of the many ways to win ON TOUR is by Net score. Net score prizing is calculated across all players who did not place in the top three gross-scoring positions in their respective Flights. The top two net winners, at each event, will receive one dozen TaylorMade golf balls and one case (24) of Mill Street beer. This week's winners were Larry Withyman, with a net 67 and Clayton MacKay, with a net 67. In addition to the season-long Gross Score, Myrtle Beach Order of Merit, players will compete for a parallel, season-long Net Score Order of Merit. For complete standings click on the link.

The winner of the closest-to-the-pin competition was John Harris, winning a dozen TaylorMade golf balls.
