The Knitting and Stitching Show
DUBLIN

What a wonderful response in Dublin......we had such a great time and it was lovely to see so many of my Irish friends.  I just loved being at the show and was thrilled to bits that Jose managed to come. It was doubtful at first that she would make it and it certainly was a magical moment when she turned up on the Wednesday with her assistant Roslyn. My lovely husband Martin and neighbour Gill also came to help with the set-up.

Our show, which was to promote barkcloth from Southern Ugandan was t he focus of our white walled exhibition and demonstrated our two very different approaches to working with this extra-ordinary cloth. Our aim is to b ring barkcloth to the forefront of contemporary design and manufacture in the UK and elsewhere.

A touring exhibition by the Textile Study Group will be starting it second leg of this tour and will be opening in Oldham Gallery on 2nd December 2017. Further tour dates can be found by clicking this link.  press release

The work itself speaks volumes of the subject matter being explored and many pieces were considered most thought provoking at the first viewing in Stroud. T extile Study Goup members were asked to explore the theme of 'Disruption', whether through global warming, rising sea levels, wars, displacement, or the state of politics. Other works reflected personal issues or those of loss and bereavement.

This exhibition gave us the opportunity to reflect on our working practice, to try out new and sometimes uncomfortable ways of making. Audience participation is encouraged with some of the pieces while other works will change over the course of the exhibition.

The Textile Study Group is a diverse group of dedicated artists and teachers and this exhibition  examines serious issues with sensitivity and poignancy.

We would love it if you came to visit us at one of the future venues. Here is a taste of some of the work that you will see.
