Please consider attending our 8th Annual Halloween Party FUNdraiser THIS FRIDAY! This year, 100% of the proceeds go towards combatting the heroin epidemic in our communities! The Substance Abuse Coalition provides forums, cafes and trainings to educate the public and youth, continually working towards a substance free county! They also set up prescription drug drop off locations as many people get started on addictive substances with something at home that was once prescribed, but no longer needed.  You don't have to like to dance, but we have dancers on stage to watch as entertainment (myself included), cash bar, SOOOOOO many outstanding raffle prizes, DC Entertainment (DJ), food menu, and then Roc Street Band kicks off the costume contest! It is a full night of fun! Tickets are only $10 which includes a chance to win the grand prize overnight at The Inn on the Lake! Kids, five and older, are welcome (full price ticket) until the band starts :)

Gourmet dinner for two and a show for under $100 at FLCC

The teachers will take the stage for the fall Faculty Recital on Friday, Oct. 27, at Finger Lakes Community College.
 
The free public concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the main campus auditorium, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive. College faculty will share a wide variety of vocal and instrumental music, including original work.
 
The concert is scheduled to coincide with FLCC's Dinner at Julia, a restaurant night at the main campus in which the public is invited to a gourmet, five-course dinner prepared and served by culinary arts students. Seatings for the Oct. 27 Julia begin at 5 p.m. to accommodate concertgoers. The cost is $40 per person, including tax and tip. Wine produced by students will be available for purchase. Make reservations at (585) 785-1476; menus are posted several days in advance at  flcc.edu/restaurant.

New Group Forms for Moms
A new support group recently launched at UR Medicine Thompson Hospital to assist mothers struggling with a mood and/or anxiety disorder that occurs during pregnancy, or after the birth of a new baby. Its first meeting is this Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in the OB Classroom at the hospital, 350 Parrish St. This includes mothers struggling with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Facilitated by Maureen Kellogg of Thompson's Social Work Department, Thompson Health Lactation Consultant/RN Courtney Phillips and a volunteer from the community, the group offers moms a "safe space" to be transparent about motherhood, mental health, and all the little things in between, providing opportunities to talk with others who have been through or are currently walking through this same season of life.  For information, call (585) 396-6295.
 
Casino Night Friday, Nov. 3 at Ferris Hills
Ferris Hills at West Lake is inviting the community to a Casino Night, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3. Each guest at this event receives $2,500 in chips for Black Jack, Poker, Beat the Dealer and Roulette. A silent auction will be held throughout the evening, appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available. At 9 p.m., the tables will close and guests will exchange their chips for "cash" to be used in bidding on selected prizes. Prizes will be awarded to the night's top five winners.

Anita Twitchell, incumbent candidate for Ward 2 City Council Representative (Democrat): I am running because I wish to
  • *Increase accessibility of middle-income housing. Ward 2 is the fastest developing section of the City. As our City grows, I want to make sure that new development benefits current residents and encourages new neighbors to move to our City.
  • Protect our natural resources. Canandaigua Lake is a beautiful and wonderful resource Not only is the lake a place to enjoy, it is our source of clean drinking water.. I will make sure Canandaigua Lake and other public spaces are protected so we may continue to enjoy them.
     
  • Maintain the quality of our top-ranked school district. Our wonderful school district is a great asset to current residents and attractive to those who are looking to start families..
