June, 2021
Greetings, DCW fans!

No, you did not miss my first email this month...I didn't send one!

My apologies to you...while resuming activities after The Big Lacuna, I have found myself loving the personal interaction, and exceedingly exhausted afterward. That is: seeing a friend for lunch in person: requires a 4-hour nap afterward. Volunteering for a City Council Candidate: Vitamins AND coffee!

So yes, it is a bit overwhelming to be back out in the World.

But exercise makes you stronger, and we will be able to exercise our artistic muscles in person this Thursday evening as we Careen with Pride! (And you may notice that I am on the bill again. This is because some people really aren't ready to jump back into hurlyburly...and that's OK.)

BUT FIRST...I must thank the amazing writers who broke our DCW drought last month: Titanic Tim Cusack, who enchanted us all with his beglittered beard and modern reinvention of Walt Whitman's "I Sing the Body Electric." Divine Kelli Dunham shared with us her beautiful and heartfelt story about needing, and asking for, help; and being with your family in hard times.

I read an older piece about being at a parent's deathbed (which did have some funny moments). I am going to try to bring in something new this week, but it might be TOO new!

Along with the live reading, I want to encourage you to do two MORE things:

VOTE!
We are in the first week of early voting here in NYC, and there are many seats at many levels open in our city government. If you're confused about Ranked Choice Voting, ask me: I'm a poll worker and will be on duty at my station on Primary Day itself (June 22).

IRISH THEATRE
As you know I love going to the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival each year. Last year's was cancelled, this year, they commissioned a bunch of new work, and are streaming it, along with some "greatest hits" online.

I hope to see you tonight. If not, that's okay.

Much love to you,

Kathleen

What you need to know:
Health & safety guidelines for
attending readings at KGB
  • While you do not have to show proof of vaccination, I'd prefer that you have all your shots.

  • A maximum of 44 people are permitted in the bar. We will be keeping count, so get there early(ish).

  • Your temperature will be taken at the door.

  • You do NOT have to purchase food. That directive has been rescinded. You can always bring something if you're hungry.

  • Tip your bartenders well. Buy drinks!

  • If you don't feel ready to attend an indoor event yet, that's OK. I'm booking people through the end of this year and into '22.
