SABANY Members in the News

This week we would like to commend three SABANY Members for their incredible accomplishments:  Nisha AgarwalAmol Sinha and Vinoo Varghese.

Nisha Agarwal is deputy director of the center and a lecturer at Columbia School of Law.  Ms. Agarwal co-authored an op-ed in the Washington Post on April 25, "A better states' welcome for immigrants."  The article discusses the legal issue in front of the Supreme Court regarding whether to uphold certain provisions of Arizon's anti-immigrant legislation.  The co-authors indicate that to uphold the law would be a "blow to equality and civil rights in this country."  They encourage immigrant and civil rights advocates to focus their efforts on equity and inclusion not only in Washington, but also at the state and local levels.  To read the article in full, please click here.

Board member, Amol Sinha, recently co-authored an op-ed in Newsday entitled, "Jail fewer Suspects Before Trial."  The article focuses on the problem of over-incarceration and provides "two sensible criminal justice reforms will significantly reduce jail populations, save taxpayer dollars, maintain public safety and safeguard fundamental rights."  To read the article in full, please click here.

Vinoo Varghese was highlighted in the New York Times, New York Post and Wall Street Journal.  Vinoo is defending a former teacher in the Bronx for charges of engaging in sexual conduct with a teenage student.  For more information on this case, please click  here.

If you or another SABANY member you know is being honored, awarded, appointed, promoted, or otherwise recognized, we would like to hear from you so that we can feature it in our "SABANY Members in the News" section of the newsletter. Please send a brief description to
