THIS WEEKEND: Legal Shred to Participate in Shred Fest

Help protect yourself from fraud and identity theft by bringing your personal and financial documents to this weekend's Shred Fest.

Legal Shred, the identity protection company, will be participating in New York City's 9th annual Shred Fest, a two-day event to assist residents with secure, safe document destruction. This free event will take place on Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22 starting at 10 a.m.

Shredding sensitive documents is one way to reduce your risk of becoming an identity theft victim. According to the Federal Trade Commission, it is estimated that 10 million Americans were victims of identity theft last year. There are many steps consumers can take to minimize their risk of being an identity theft victim, including shredding charge receipts, copies of credit applications, and other sensitive documents such as old bank statements and old pay stubs.

"NYC Shred Fest is an opportunity for residents within the five boroughs to take a proactive approach to protecting their identities," said Jason Fredricks, Founder and Vice-President of Legal Shred. "It is a pleasure for Legal Shred to be part of this event to help educate the public about safe document destruction."

Shredding trucks will be available until 4 p.m., or until shredder trucks are full. NYC Shred Fest recommends arriving early.
