Growing up the fourth of six sons in the tiny community of Ben Franklin, Texas, Michael's home education afforded him the opportunity for individualized studies more suited to his personal interests. He discovered his love for words at a young age while completing a Wordsmith program and began writing The Dark Legion at age fourteen. Michael is continuing his research and work to complete the trilogy. Michael was recently honored as a finalist in the Indie Excellence awards under the category of Fantasy. Congratulations, Michael! I spent most of my time last week in Fort Worth at the Republican State Convention. There were several significant things that impressed me. First, there were a lot of home schoolers in attendance as delegates, alternates, and pages. One estimate was that more than half of the teen pages were home school students.
I talked to a number of old and new friends and was told more than once that people had become involved in the political process in order to protect parental rights and their freedom to homeschool. In fact, that was a common and recurring theme. One young person told me that she had been to THSC Capitol Days, that it had "changed her life," and that it was the beginning of her education about "good citizenship."

"These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart." DEUTERONOMY 6:6
A proper understanding of biblical love is the foundation upon which a child's spiritual life is built. However, that foundation is only the first step. If biblical love is the foundation, a biblical worldview is the frame. It is imperative that we prepare children to think biblically. A child without a biblical worldview is like a ballplayer without a playbook. He may have spectacular abilities that will allow him to make the occasional jaw-dropping play, but more often than not he will end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, and worse, not knowing how he got there or how to get back.
